I love COD 1, 2, 4 and 5. Only played Halo 1, which kicked ass.
I'll go with COD.
Hey giantbomb. Which do you prefer, Call of Duty or Halo?
This is a bit of a loaded question as there are aspects of each game that I prefer over the other, but if I had to boil it down to "would I rather play game A or game B" I would probably play Call of Duty because I am less of a fan of the science fiction setting and love the World War II, and I used to like the modern setting.
Ignoring a lot of contenders......
Halo for me. I feel like Call of Duty plays poorly on the consoles and the zoom-aim mechanic is a bit of a bandage.
On PC CoD feels a little better, and Halo pacing starts to seem to slow, but overall Halo seems to be better crafted in terms of engagement setup.
This is a misleading poll because there no choice for "neither"
I guess I'll reluctantly choose Halo, because it used to be a great series. COD on the other hand has never been good.
Halo may have gotten a little stale considering how old the franchise is, but there isn't a single Halo game that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. The same cannot be said in any way for the Call of Duty games. Halo is also a more mechanically sound game, It's story is more interesting and important to what Halo is, and I think the game just plays better.
*Replys with the name of another FPS because I want to look "hardcore" among my peers and attempt to trivialize everyone elses interests despite the name of the thread clearly saying its about games I claim I dont like*
Unreal Tournament 2k4/3
I recently traded in my old 80 gb fat PS3 and got a new 320 gb slim. I got the MW3 bundle because I already own Uncharted 3. I felt obligated to play through the campaign. So I did that and tried out online as well. It's such a bad game, I don't understand why so many people buy it. Luckily I was able to sell it to Best Buy.
I have no affection for either. When it comes to competitive shooters there has been and always will be one answer for me (atleast for the forseeable future). Unreal Tournament.

@Mutley: Its that little red x at the top right
@BeachThunder: If you are into online fps, those seem the best
Both are good games in there own right, but to say they're the best online fps's is crazy. Counter Strike? Team Fortress? Battlefield?
For me, both Halo and CoD have overstayed their welcome, and as such I'm not a fan of either of them at this point. But CoD4 is probably my 3rd favourite online experince losing out to SC: Chaos Theory and Rainbow Six: Vegas.
You forgot to add the option: Rearranging my sock draw.
If you hold a gun to my head, then I would go Halo because it is sci-fi.
Halo. I probably actually play more MW thanks to more friends having it, but I definitely enjoy Halo more, especially when it comes to single-player.
Halo is always a day 1 purchase for me...Call of Duty has been "I'll get it when I can pick it up for 20-30 bucks" for the last few installments.
I voted for Halo but it was close. I love CoD but Halo is more reliable for good game play in every release.
Whilst more recently I would say Call of Duty - Reach was good, but probably my least favourite Halo game by a long shot, so I spent a lot more time with Black Ops and to a lesser extent MW3 - but my heart will always belong to Halo. It was my first 'competitive' shooting experience, and still remains as the most fun I can have playing a shooter. I love the world, too - It's a weird thing to say, but I think the Halo franchise has done quite well for itself in terms of being 'transmedia' moreso than almost any other game franchise (only Mass Effect really comes close in my opinion).
I have to say I had some strong reservations for Halo 4 post-Reach and post-Bungie (although I'd say at least for Halo Bungie were past their 'prime' at that point), but after the media blowout for E3 and the MP footage they had at MLG this past weekend, I am on board in a huge way. I'm really excited for Black Ops 2, but Halo 4 looks incredible.
Call lol doody comes out on the PC in a timely fashion unlike Stale-o so I'm gonna pick CoD because mouse keyboard
The only pure FPS's of this style that I play are Killzone and Halo so I guess I'll go with Halo here. But for FPS's of any subgenre definitely borderlands.
I massively enjoyed both Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, but for me the Call of Duty series hasn't evolved enough since then to warrant my interest. Say what you will about the armour abilities in Reach, but at least it was a clear attempt by Bungie to mix things up while still retaining that core gameplay.
