How console FPS are ruining the PC's.

Regenerating Health improves the pace of an online game. Rounds are quicker because you dont have someone hiding behind a crate with 10 health who is more interested in finding a medkit than hunting down the remaining opposition. Said coward is more likely to go out and fight when they have full health due to regeneration. The 1 button melee is so that players are more likely to utilize melee weapons because they are more accessible. I think both mechanics are perfectly sound in the right game. As for the melee button being an instant kill I'm pretty sure game balance is the reason for that.

I'm a pc gamer and this thread makes me sad. 
 
The reason melee kills are there is that it's your strategic reward for closing the distance on your target. It's really simple and works well in a lot of games.

I don't think I have a problem with some of the gameplay changes console FPS bring in.  Stuff like Halo is fine functionally.  Sometimes game designers think console gamers want games such and such a way, but it's really misguided and often those games fail in the marketplace anyways.
 
What really annoys me is when companies make really sloppy ports to PC, like Bioshock 2.  I really regret buying this version of the game because of how bad a job they did with the mouse controls, and it doesn't even support the 360 gamepad either.
 
I think PC would be best served getting its own exclusive FPS while consoles get their own exclusive FPS, but unfortunately that's not the gaming environment anymore.

Don't really mind the melee button although I can see more of a hybrid system for quick melee and full melee. My gripe with consoles is the death of genres that need a mouse. 

Being predominantly a PC gamer I respectfully disagree with the OP.

Different games use different systems, if you hate the knife in CoD so much there are other shooters out there where knifes are much tamer.

Consoles cause a lot of problems for PC gamers, but a dedicated melee button and regenerating health aren't some of them.  Both of those are just natural evolutions of the genre that would have taken place eventually.

You know what's funny? We have two consoles desperately trying to emulate PCs, and we have PC developers now making games on these consoles in order to make money. What this proves to me is that the differences between the two aren't really all that big anymore. No indeed, while it is convenient to have a game capable PC, an Xbox and a Playstation 3, it is perhaps far more efficient to just own one of these consoles and accept the loss of an exclusive here and there. Six of one, a half dozen of the other.

But that doesn't count the Wii, now does it?

@Diamond: Isn't Bioshock 2 a Games for Windows Title? It should support the 360 pad because its a requirement for GFW games.
