I don't have enough money to buy all of the games I want brand new, so the one's I know I'll be buying day one, I know the release date way before they come out. Checking out the game pages on the site is really useful for that, because the community here is really good at filling release dates.

On a much beloved other Online Site, where many of the GB staff had,uhm..previous employment, there is a sub-heading at the bottom of their main page called 'New Releases' what is nice about it is that it is grouped week to week for around 6 months. Yes I remembered to curse them and spit on the screen the whole time I was there. Behavior usually reserved for Ice-Tee. gears of War gonna get messy, babe.

I'm usually up to date with the Bombcast and following online discussions about video games. If people start mentioning a game I like the look of is coming out soon I look up the date here or if it's come out recently it's pretty obvious.

@Fahrenheit:  Either use the "new releases" tab that people recommended, or this 2011 releases thread

I keep a word file on my desktop with dates. I have 30-50 games preordered at any given time so it gets confusing.

I pre-order games when I think they look good enough to justify a purchase, then I receive shipping notifications and I know it's right around the corner.

I just focus on the ones I'm interested in. I can't afford to buy a whole big bunch, nor the time to play em all. Unfortunately.
