What if you had to choose GOTY 2009 right now, top 3, which ones?
And motivation?
Of course unreleased games do not count.
My list so far:
1. Episodes from Liberty City (GTA IV was top on my '08 list, and these two expansions heighten the experience even more)
2. Resident Evil 5 (Had so much fun with this one, upgrading weapons and getting unlim. ammo, was a great gaming experience!)
3. Borderlands (Just pure co-op fun with this loot-based shooter all throughout with different classes, great game!)
Keep in mind I haven't tried MW2 yet, that might just change my list. But this is only so far.
So, show us your list!
If you had to choose Game of the Year '09
From what I've played this year:
1) Dragon Age: Origins (I love Bioware. I'm playing on PC and am not enitrely sure where everyone's getting the bad graphics comments from. I'm not saying that it's top of the line, but Mass Effect had a lot more graphic issues (even just having plastic-skin which people complained about for DAO) than people remember)
2) Borderlands (nuff said)
3) ODST (I got what I finally wanted out of Halo since that first trailer for Halo 2)
4) Batman: Arkham Asylum
Like you, I haven't gotten a chance to play MW2 yet, but I don't expect it to overthrow DAO.
I'm guessing it'll be either:
Batman
Borderlands
Dragon Age
Hopefully it won't go to Modern Warfare 2 or ODST.
1. Resident Evil 5 (great graphics, great bosses, awesome game)
2. Halo 3: ODST (my favorite Halo campaign yet and Firefight is an absolute blast)
3. Modern Warfare 2 (still have to finish the single-player but the multiplayer I can already see will last me awhile)
Honorable Mentions: Halo Wars, Batman: Arkham Asylum
From what I've played, Panzer Dragoon Saga; from what has actually come out this year, Batman: Arkham Asylum.
I haven't play some of the big hits this Fall( Borderlands, Uncharted 2), but it's hard to believe they can surpass Modern Warfare 2. This is just a pure masterpiece.
Demon's Souls - Beautiful, deep story, punishing gameplay and just fantastic in a world of easy games.
Dragon Age: Origins - Haven't finished yet but great story, great characters and returning to the roots of old school Fantasy RPGs.
Uncharted 2 - Visually impressive, fantastic characters, improved on the original but is a sequel and I don't feel sequels should earn GOTY personally.
So i'll have to give to Demon's Souls for being so anticipated and doing well despite being a niche title from a smaller publisher. Most likely Demon's Souls will not win it and DA:O is more of chance for RPG of the year.
Haven't touched MW2 yet (it's on my desk) but heard the SP is easy on Veteran and that's disappointing and well I am so into DA:O that I won't touch MW2 SP before then, maybe i'll install it for some MP on PC to see if I can enjoy it.
I'd choose Batman if it weren't for the lackluster final boss. :-\
Right now Uncharted 2 is my frontrunner.
" 1. Street Fighter 4 2. Borderlands 3. Modern Warfare 2 (Dragon age is up there but I have not yet beat it.) "I forgot about SF4! I probably played that more than any other game this year. Decisions...
Batman? I don't know. After
Actually, I think I don't have a GOTY this year.It would be Team Fortress 2 if it wasn't so old. Probably Dragon Age? I need to actually play this game to be certain, but from all the good feedback everywhere it's clearly GOTY material.
wow too many xbots in this site, how can uncharted 2 be is so few peoples lists? lol
anyway my GOTY is between Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2... still need more time to decide.
Dude, just because Uncharted 2 isn't on people's lists doesn't mean it's all "Xbots" as you call them... Just because it got good reviews doesn't mean everyone has to like it better than other games that came out this year. I personally thought the game was run of the mill, and very much like a Disney movie. I could see them making a film about Uncharted now with Shia LeBouf as the lead. /wrists" wow too many xbots in this site, how can uncharted 2 be is so few peoples lists? lol anyway my GOTY is between Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2... still need more time to decide. Mine would be a tie between Demon's Souls and Borderlands. Followed closely by Resident Evil 5 and InFamous.

How can ToV win GOTY '09 if it came out in '08? People keep saying it's their game of the year but it's almost a year and a half old. Why the heck can't I change this boldness? :P" Persona 4, Tales of Vesperia and Metroid Prime Trilogy would have to be my choices. "

Huh? Disney-like how? In the shooting and snapping of people's necks or the psychopathic villain that is willing to off his own dudes without a bat of the eye? And Shia LeBouf? What?I personally thought the game was run of the mill, and very much like a Disney movie. I could see them making a film about Uncharted now with Shia LeBouf as the lead.
Personally, I'd pick Uncharted 2. It is visually outstanding, the character interactions are great, and the platforming and shooting are stellar.
I can't really describe what I'm trying to say... I guess it was mostly just Nathan Drake's personality and how cinematic it was. He's too... I don't know how to put it really. Feel good? It's something along those lines, but not really feel good. Just disregard what I'm saying because I can't figure out the right words. Who says Disney can't have violence?! They've made plenty of movies with violence." @xyzygy said:

I don't know, I just felt like I was watching a Jerry Bruckheimer film...
It's like having a word at the tip of your tongue... hmmmm

well this year i only bought RE5 and uncharted 2....
guess which one i liked more?
[spoilers]uncharted 2, durr hurrr[/spoilers]
Its obviously going to go to Modern Warfare 2 for most sites-you have to remember a lot of the games we are talking about are exclusives, therefore they won't get votes from other console players (as they have not played them), and the fact that pretty much everybody has got or will get Modern Warfare 2 and, because it is a great game, will get a lot of votes.
For me, its a four way tie between MW2, Killzone 2 (this game is actually fantastic-I just don't understand why not every teenager has this game), Demon's Souls, and Batman: Arkham Asylum (this game has a LOT of rough edges-the Killer Croc parts, the ending-yet, if you forget all those, you have a near perfect game).

Killzone 2
Uncharted 2
Borderlands
Dragon Age: Origins
Modern Warfare 2
...all great games this year, but I share some others' opinions, I don't think sequels should get GOTY, no matter how good they are. If it were up to me, I'd give it to Borderlands for trying something a little different than the norm, and for putting some obvious effort into making a great game.
Uncharted 2
Borderlands
Demon's Souls
Are the ones from 09 that sick out to me right now. Haven't played Dragon Age yet, so don't know if that will go on the list.
