yeah you got that from kotaku. I saw that early and just realised that roger ebert is a sad sad man. He doesnt like video games be cause he had an early onset addiction to them and went into a depression funk. Then putting away his interest in video games forever. Hes just another sucker who couldnt adapt to the times like the way people thought about movies way back when and how people felt about comics for a long time and in some respect do.

@fisher81:  Ah thats probably where kotaku got it. I just woke up this morning and saw it on kotaku. Saw part 1 and read the article. Its just kind of sad when he makes sweeping generalizations of a form of media when his last experience with games was the equivalent of the 1920s in movies

@blackbird415: Movies will never last. It'll disappear in a year and we can go back to our radios and newspapers. Them crazy hyenas and their radiation-screens are messing with dangerous things, I tell ya!

Every time this conversation comes back I'm embarrassed for all the pent up gamer passion manifesting in middle school pedantic logic. You have no problem excepting girls don't get you but Ebert, this is a fight worth fighting? Prioritize your life.

I love Ebert. He's gone through a lot of shit in the last decade, can't even speak anymore, and he continues to be the most respected film critic we have. Gamer nerd rage is sad and pathetic.

I think gamers give this movie reviewer way too much attention.  #1 He's not a game reviewer and says he doesn't like games so how is he even relevant in the gaming world?  Plus, he's like 80.  Old people are supposed to be crazy, cantankerous, and completely unwilling to accept that anything made in the last 30 years could be good.

How about a New Years resolution to let the Roger Ebert versus the "games are art" debate die?   I really don't understand the continued obsession with the topic.

He thought Scorsese's Casino was derivative of his earlier work. I agree. Happy thoughts.

I seriously feel sorry for Roger Ebert, but I suppose that's what happens when you express your opinions to the world.

Ebert is just a shitty movie critic that gets paid to praise shit and thumbs down quality pictures. He's a hack that doesn't deserve any attention whatsoever.

Because he's put himself in the position of being anti-video game, plus he's a celebrity. Therefore, he's an important man to hate.

Maybe I'm in the wrong here but I have not ever read Ebert saying anything about hating video games, he has spoken about video games not being art (or an art form) a claim he has later changed his stance on. So why you people think he is a sad man I just can't understand. His video game addiction in the past perhaps could make him think that video games are  just consuming entertainment with no real purpose other  than escapism, but I don't think it has anything to do what he thinks about the medium as a whole. Also I think you can love something and just because that love fades with the years, it doesn't make one a hypocrite.

Even after twenty years I agree with the hypnotic nature of video games.

The problem is that that's not just games that are addictive. All entertainment is, unequally.
