I recently jumped back into Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and rekindled my love for arcade races. I find myself enjoying those even more than the traditional racing sims, albeit I did enjoy GT and Forza. I was also a huge fan of ModNation Racers.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on arcade racers from the part year or so that would be worth checking out? I've been keeping an eye on "The Run" as well to see how it turns out.

Thanks!

Split Second and if you want to go a few years back try Burnout Paradise.

@Commisar123: Jeff's review is what made me make this post, oddly enough.

TrackMania 2 looks like an absolute blast, the only problem is I don't own a PC at the moment, just my MacBook.

@skadave: Is Split Second a fairly lengthy experience? I remember it getting fairly positive reviews.

Flatout is really really fun and different enough to make it worth your while.

I never actually finished split second (i am still meaning to) but i think it's a decent length. One thing that is unique to Split Second is that the races are tense as hell. There were times i was literally shaking after finishing a race.

@Andorski: Is Apocalypse a worthy upgrade? I still have Pacific Rift, but sort of hit a brick wall in terms of difficulty once I got about 3/4 of the way through the game.

You could throw $15 at Hydro Thunder and see if you like it- speedboats might be a nice change of pace. I actually haven't played the new console one yet, but the arcade game was a blast!

Dirt 2 or 3. I know it's not exactly arcade-y, but the driving feels just so amazing and it has just the right amount of arcade-y to it. I actually really don't like racing sims, and Dirt 2 is my favorite racing game I've ever played. Burnout Paradise would be my second choice.

Blur, Split Second, Trackmania 2 and Driver: San Francisco is an arcade racer, right?

Nah. Apocalypse looks amazing, but the actual racing is no fun. And the rubber banding will make you pull your hair out. Split/Second on the other hand looks amazing and is fun to play.

Blur ain't too bad either.

Blur is really sweet as well, add me to one of the people that endorse it. Though, I would say, if you want a game for just the single player, Split/Second may be a better choice, Blur is best enjoyed in couch co-op in my opinion.

I've heard good things about Blur as well. I'll try to check Blur and Split/Second out. I really wish something similar to TrackMania was on consoles.
