@sammpoo: Okay, Sampoo if you genuinely are a guy who has had their Grandfather hurt by the fact that the age gates do not facilitate his exact age then I feel sorry for your Grandpa, but we both know this is not Giant Bomb actually trying to discriminate against anyone. This system was put in place as a technicality, not as some huge symbol of Giant Bomb/Whiskey Media's views on society. I'm sure it crossed someones mind when they were creating this system that perhaps there would be people over 80 years of age viewing videos here, but they know as well as we do that this system is there to try and ensure that the people viewing these videos were over 18 and 80 just happened to be the cut-off point they chose. If you really are worried about this then message one of the staff and something may be done about it. Oh and also I did see your comments calling the Wii "gay" and that kind of statement is discriminatory. I have known people who are homosexual and to use the word "gay" as an insult suggests a pretty homophobic attitude on your part.

You do realize that anyone with the common knowledge of the internets wouldn't think that someone over 80 would be playing video games. And it's not being discriminatory at all.
It's not like people in their 60s and 70s are watching videos at Giantbomb on their iPhone. Because people over 80 would be unthinkable. So we gotta set the cap at 80 right? No, it's nothing like that. They just threw 1-80 on there just to get ESRB off their back.
You've must realize that its just a script on a video that says
"Over 17 > Under 17 = Play video / Over 17 < Under 17 = gtfo"
He shouldn't be allowed to watch the videos if they aren't meant to be viewed by someone of his age. It's the law, and in this country you abide by them or you go to jail, deservedly so. Perhaps if he would've smartened up and not been the age he is before attempting to view this Borderlands video, then he wouldn't be in this situation now, would he? As far as I'm concerned it's his own damned fault. I'd really appreciate it if you would show at least some semblance of responsibility, and not allow people who are either too young or too old to see this highly offensive material, it simply isn't meant for their immature minds. No, I am not "trolling", nor am I going entirely off-topic. I understand that what I said was not directly related to original post but it seems rather hypocritical that you argue about the Giant Bomb age gate being discriminatory when you yourself have used such discriminating slurs in the sites comments sections.
What is this site coming to? A whole topic about how someone grandfather cant put in his exact date of birth. The true purpose is to make the user confirm they are over 18. I'm sure giantbomb did not think some over the game of 80 would visit this site. Also I'm sure they know people will just random scroll to age pass 18 but at least they do not get in shit from ESRB.
@sammpoo: a little more than a month as a user and 24 posts doesn't make you an ambassador or Giant Bomb.... It seems like a dick move to complain about the age gate not going over 80. Sure it isn't necessarily politically correct, but they can't have numbers that go on forever. On the other hand, there probably isn't a registered user on Giant Bomb over the age of 80, so you could argue why the fuck did you not enter your own! I wonder what the rules of these age gates actually are. I saw on one videogame website (I forgot the name of it) where they merely had two options: Under 18 or Over 18. This is also the same thing done with most porn sites. I wonder why some sites do this, but others have you select your age?
I went to some kind of videogame/movie-specific site, and just scrolled down the ages really fast and selected that I was 102 years old. It said I could not watch the video! I thought that was kind of messed up.

I think you just need to look at this guys track record in terms of forum topics to see he's just taking the piss, and could one of those "consequences" please be some stricter forum moderation so people who actually want to have imformed discussions on giantbomb don't have to spend half an hour digging through shit like this to find one.

I dont really care whether Dave does anything about it or not, but the fact of the matter is that this thread is pointless since none of us can change the age gate, and Dave can. Which makes this a matter between Dave and the OP, and that was really all I was getting at.
