Realistically, we can only have three consoles in one gen for two reasons:

  • Competition is good for the gamers
  • If there's too many consoles in one gen company's wont make as much money

So just say Sony, Ninty or Microsoft somehow went bankrupt, who would be ready to take their place?

The two companys that first springs to my mind is Apple, they will survive quite a while due to their deep pockets. Also, EA because Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft rely on EAs games however EA make money because of multiplats so if they had exclusives they would stand to lose alot of $.

So which company do you think will be next in line to have a console?

I was going to say Apple as well. Perhaps even SEGA would attempt to get back in the console market if Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft went under.

No SEGA is just out for the count.

I'd go with Apple or if the bankruptcy was really bad I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung or other TV companies came out with a console.

Apple, EA would be Microsoft and Sony and Sega would play Nintendo. But that's a little obvious.Sir_Ragnarok said:

Atari. The talented are jumping ship from lofty companies to join them, they are shutting their doors, have recieved millions upon millions of dollars from investors, and are remaining suspiciously silent.

I'd put down $100 on this.

Seriously, you'll probably never see a new hardware console brand again. BUT, you might see many smaller browser type sites that do kind of the same thing. Google....

Sega actually failed multiple times.....these three console brands won't make those mistakes.

I'm not too sure on Apple.  I think if they did bridge the gap and try to make a console, it'd just be another Nintendo Wii.  They're about that kind of innovation, not really the classic gaming experience.  It'd be more powerful, and cost way more than it's worth, but it'd be another Wii (and this is coming from a mac user).  That being said, if everyone else folded, I wouldn't shocked if they threw their hat in.

I think Atari is a definite possibility.  They've always been there in some form or another, but I think they've been waiting for something big to really make themselves stand out.  The next console war might see an Atari system thrown in the mix, and I'd definitely like to see what their gimmick will be.

As for a dark horse console, I want me a Squeenix Fantasy Machine or maybe a Capcom Random Mega Man Game Generator!

You have to take into account that they aren't even making console games and are moving towards online browser games the last time I checked....unless AitD sold millions more than I thought it did. Plus they are barely there financially, and creatively. They hardly publish.

A little too hopeful are we? They are about as far from a definite possibility as you could get.

Why would they be spending money developing third party console games if they were investing in entering the console market? They don't have the money to be doing both at once.

Activision and EA are the two biggest 3rd party publishers, but both make a lot of money with multiplatform stuff. Still, the iterest in stuff like Guitar Hero and Madden is so great that those might lure people into buying an Activision or EA console.

Apple has already had a console and it was an epic flop and as expensive as Chuck Norris's leg. EA would no doubt be next and will probably do it next-gen (madden games exclusive means epic win for them sad to say). I would rather Sega be bought by a big game company because unfortuantely a new Sega system would flop in the US.

I don't think an EA console would be too successful. A console that can't play Activision or TakeTwo games? /pass

You aren't thinking clearly BiggerBomb. EA is gaining devs by the minute. Also, how could you forget about Madden and other sports games? Madden = instant win in US (unfortunately). I HATE EA.

Apple, and they call it the Ibox. They should have it employ the same technology that the Iphone has. It would be like a touch screen controller, and it transfers to the screen. It would be so cool.

I'm sure EA would profit much more sticking to their multi-plat, multi-games methods.

I say SEGA is going to come back.

A console without....

-Grand Theft Auto

-All 2K Sports

-Call of Duty

-Gears of War

-Halo

-Resistance

-Project Gotham Racing

-Motor Storm

-JRPGs

-9/10WRPGs

-Legend of Zelda

-Mario

-Metroid Prime

-etc.

Do you see where I'm going with this? I'm not saying it wouldn't sell, I'm saying it wouldn't sell well.

Samsung is pretty close to Microsoft so I don't think they will come up with a console of their own. Apple is too "hip" to be producing a video game console.

EA though, I can see that. That will be a black day if they decide to enter the console market.
