This makes me incredibly sad and angry at the same time. I really hope for Valve it´s not L4D3. What would be cool though is a new Source Engine.
No Half-Life 2 EP3 as E3 Suprise
I should´ve known... I actually was hoping." Someone was actually expecting it? "
It wouldn´t suprise me if it actually turns out to be Half Life 3 instead of episode 3 :P
Actually.. it would.
I'd imagine it's probably Half-Life 3. Personally, I don't really care about episode 3. The Source engine is adaptable enough to still look and perform good even by today's standards, but the prospect of an all-new Half-Life game going from where episode 2 left off sounds much more appealing to me.
" @ThePhantomnaut said:That's a definite never." Day of Defeat 2. "Final Fantasy 7 remake. "
After such a long gap, I don't know how anyone could still be interested in a Half-Life Episode 3. That ship has sailed.
They should have made Episode 3 instead of team fortress, L4D2 etc.
Or perhaps the sales of Episode 1 and 2 wheren't good enough for them to trust into making 3.
Probably a new engine alongside some announcement for Half-Life 3 which would in reality be whatever Episode 3 was intended as and much more.
Unless they announce something to do with Counter-Strike, but it seems right now Valve are pushing TF2 as their online game of choice so I'm not sure they'd want to announce a competing product for that.
I suppose L4D3 would be a surprise to everyone, cause why would a company announce a game that will probably get them all lynched?
I'd settle for CS2. I don't like HL anyway.
I seriously doubt Valve will completely skip Ep. 3 and go right to HL3. If the surprise isn't Ep. 3, I don't think it will be anything Half-Life-related, unfortunately.
" @HandsomeDead said:Would have to be something impossibly special for me to get interested again." After such a long gap, I don't know how anyone could still be interested in a Half-Life Episode 3. That ship has sailed. "half life 3 on the other hand.. "
They never said specifically that it wouldn't be Half Life 3, which would be amazing and a long time coming. I'm was almost considering it to be a lost cause like Duke Nukem Forever.
I just figured out what it's going to be- Source 2.0 reveal that will blow us all the fuck away, along with an Ep 3 tease. I'm positive of it.
Also, in all seriousness (straight face), I'm fairly sure it'll be a new Source engine.
Although I've been saying they'd announce Episode 3 alongside that as a demo.
We probably just shouldn't try to guess what Valve will do.. we'll either end up disappointed or amazed. :p

The legend never dies.
Probably a hoax, but still.
LEFT 4 DEAD 3!
Nah, on a more serious note, at this point I have to question if Episode Three will ever come out. They would need to do something absolutely crazy and unique for that franchise to work here in 2010. Maybe it's just me, but I can't really go back to the old Half-Life 2 games - either I've just played them too much, or the simplistic gameplay formula has just aged with time.
Valve is not one to settle with sub-par games, so I almost expect something crazy like Portal 2 IS Episode Three or something of that nature. There's no way they're just going to release "just another Half-Life 2 episode", right?
" Valve is not one to settle with sub-par games, so I almost expect something crazy like Portal 2 IS Episode Three or something of that nature. There's no way they're just going to release "just another Half-Life 2 episode", right? "But hasn't it either been confirmed or rumored that Portal 2 takes place 100 years after Episode 2? Pretty sure I've heard that somewhere.
" Valve really seems to have missed the point with making the games 'Epsiodic'. At least we can wait for that Half Life 1 remake, Black Mesa I mean oh what nothing's been announced on that front either. "They've already said a while ago that naming the games following Half-Life 2 "Episodes" was a big mistake.
