You heard it here, folks, a game that's been out less than two yeras, and the creator is already calling it shit. How's to say he won't do the same with Fable III? What are your thoughts?
Peter Molyneux: "Fable II was rubbish".
I actually enjoyed Fable 2, I fail to see what was wrong with it and why it is treated like Two Worlds in some discussions. I have been looking forward to Fable 3 since it was announced and will continue to do so, I hope they don't change everything.
He will do the same with Fable 3. Infact he has. Jumping on the Kinect band wagon. And now he was microsimulations in it.
Damnit! Why can't I ever make my own opinion on games!
Now even Peter says that the game was "rubbish" now I need to think that too, oh wait no.
I liked it, sure it has flaws, but I haven't played a game in my entire lifetime that didn't have that.
Still looking forward to Fable III
Now:
"And Fable III is the greatest game in forever." - Molyneux
2 years from now:
"Fable III was complete ass. That 'Touch' gimmick was shit."
It's Peter, he hypes up his games into Jesus status, then once he starts working on a new project he'll call his last one shit.
Example, he just said "Milo" is still around and it's 10 times better than the last time we saw it. A year after its release, guess what he'll say? shit.
Its possible to sell your new product without undercutting the last thing. Peter does this because he thinks it makes people think he's working that much harder for the next game. "Gosh if he thinks F2 is rubbish and F3 is amazing then it must be the best thing ever". Not buying the snake oil.
My problem with Fable II was that it walked the line between open world and linear narrative in the weirdest way. It didn't have the emotional or engaging story of a linear game, and it didn't have the interesting and hour consuming side missions of an open world game. Not to mention it didn't have any kind of really diverse environment you'd see in a game like Oblivion.
It really felt like the worst of both worlds to me.
Having said that, I'll remain mildly optimistic about Fable III's gameplay. The touch sensitive mechanic seems interesting, but maybe too ambitious for this generation.
I used to like Peter for doing this, but now it's just dumb.
I will play Fable 3 as I have played Fable 1, but nobody is falling for your "The sequel will be the best thing ever and have everything I promised you 2 games ago!" rubbish any longer.
Sadly, I do not own an xbox to play Fable 2.
I know that Peter Molyneux likes us to hype for his next game but calling Fable II 'rubbish' is idiotic.
" "Fable II's story was rubbish."Or, hooray for games journalism!
Hooray for sensationalist headlines.
Oh, and Fable 2's story was rubbish. "

" The dog wasn't revolutionary enough. "There was a great feature on Kotaku a week or two ago about why the dog in Fable II just isn't what most people want in a video game companion.
The article essentially said that because it had too many wants and needs that it got a little old. Whereas a companion like Agro from Shadow of the Colossus is a purely loyal friend. It was a pretty interesting read. Here's a link if anyone wants.

Ok let's look at it like this. Peter Molyneux is a video game artist. Artists give themselves that kind of esteem to push their next project. They will bad mouth it, talk crap, and put it down. Anything to push themselves to believe that their next project is the best one they have ever done. So I'm with him on this type of thinking. It's very unique and I hope to see it more often. So kudos Mr. Molyneux.
I always want to hit Molyneux square in the nose when he says this: "The last game was shit!" crap.
How many people worked on Fable 2?
I mean I do realise that Molyneux's just trying to hype people up for Fable 3 but come on!
He only serves to cheapen the hard work that was put into Fable 2.
Oh well, his interviews are fun to read about, but I just wish he'd work on the compulsive lying problem he has when people from the press are asking him things.
I commend the guy for his frankness and honesty, but I disagree with him. It wasn't perfect game, but at least he didn't have to apologise that it didn't deliver what it promised. I never thought I'd see the day that I would think more highly of a game than the franchise's own video game designer, describing his own game as rubbish.
Either I'm very linient or he's very harsh over his work.

"It's a combination of him being genuinely critical about his own work and genuinely wanting to improve on it mixed with wanting to create hype about his next project. You have to take everything he says with a grain of salt, though I'm sure there is some truth to it.
From the sound of the actual article and headline it sounds like he's talking in comparison to Fable III.
Does Phazon work for Destructoid?
He was wrong about Fable 1. Wrong about Fable 2. I can only imagine what will happen in Fable 3. Just as long as no one overhypes any dumbass features, like the dog, then I think I can tolerate this game.

"I haven't read the article, but I am sure that when Brad asked him to rate Fable II in the GB video interview prior to the game release he said it was 9/10.
I like Molyneux. Sometimes what he says gets taken out of context. I am wondering if the article is doing the same for hits.
He says this in comparison to Fable 3, obviously he'd say it's better. If they didn't address the issues people had with the game, and just released the same game, who would buy it?
Steve Jobs isn't gonna tell you that the iPhone 3G was a fantastic phone, and 4 is the same, he'll say 4 is the best phone ever.
I think i've created 4 threads during my time on this forum. One of them is about how badly an impression Fable II ended up leaving me with when I had been enjoying the game somewhat up until a certain spoiler-free point.
Fable really needs a rethink as to what it's priorities are. Imagine a Fable with epic bosses instead of a press-a-button and win the game mechanic, rewarding puzzles instead of frustrating trial-and-error flitswitch nonsense, and loot actually worth obtaining instead of 300 pauper's blouses. The series might actually qualify to label itself as an RPG at that point. Until then though, I agree with Molyneux and would go one step farther.
Fable is the most dissapointing franchise in video games. It's as if all of the ingredients are there, ready to be concocted into a delicious brew, but then Lionhead throws itself on a bender and spends the last year of development time making farting animations. I just don't understand.
