This topic is really not in good taste, considering the horrific human rights violations that have come to light since then, and especially the recent protests.
Lol get it, because the man playing a video game said a thing that reminded me of a meme on this silly website about games, the website should totally profit from the joke about China not caring about human rights. Because lol.
I honestly didn't find it super amusing back then either. Not for any particular reason like I was offended or anything, just thought the joke was kinda meh.
The Ryan Davis shirt is good though.
I voted yes, but only in the vacuum of "classic GB merch". Actually doing it would be a bad idea, though. It's not a strong enough statement to be considered a protest shirt, and like others said, it can be taken the other way far too easily. And either way, it's not a subject that should be tackled by a site like this via merch in either regard.
Because I don't listen to the podcast as it's released, I missed the China Don't Care shirts and would've really liked to have gotten one.
China Don't Care is the exact kind of double speak that would be fine on a shirt. Blizzard and the NBA only care about money, they have no interest in whats actually going on in China.
Free Hong Kong, the revolution of our time.
Should Giant Bomb re-release the shirt?: Gonna have to agree with others in that it may not be a good look for the site. Political topics a dicey enough at it is around here, so I rather the site not take on any more possible negative attention, unless Jeff and co are willing to take on those consequences.
But should someone release a China Don't Care shirt?: Yes, specifically Jim Sterling who already takes on an outspoken activist persona.
I find China Don't Care funny in the context of that specific shirt and the way Ryan described it on the Bombcast.
With all of the stuff going on, there's so much baggage between human rights issues, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and a lot of other issues around the world, it would probably come across as making light of it. There's a time and place, that seems like it would be in poor taste, etc. etc.
I mean, with all the stuff going on I've certainly thought of the shirt more than in the past and kind of regret not getting one as it seems prophetic now in some way, or an astute observation in some contexts at the least, but I couldn't wear it without being ready for a lot of deserved flak so I'd want one just as GB memorabilia.
