Huh, cool. Thanks for the compilation brosephene
The Almost Definitive Guide to Video Game Documentaries
Dunno if its been suggested yet but check out "Going Cardboard" for your "other gamer type" docs. Covers pretty well the boardgame scene.
Great list! Here's that Thumb Candy documentary - one of my favourites.
Also wondering if Micro Men qualifies for that list - it's a drama but based on pure facts about Sir Clive Sinclair...
Great list. Race to world first was also a great raiding doc. http://www.racetoworldfirst.com/
Holy shit this is a great convenient compilation, too bad it has gone mostly unnoticed at the time. Gonna keep this on note to watch later.
Reformat the Planet is a pretty good documentary about the chiptune scene, and the BBS Documentary (from the same guy who did Get Lamp) is a fascinating look at everything relating to early BBS technology. Not strictly gaming, but related to gaming, and very informative.
There is a documentary in the works that should fit this post perfectly. It's called "Video Games: The Movie" and it's currently under production by a legitimate studio, Mediajuice. Check it out: http://facebook.com/VideoGamesTheMovie
Update June 26
-Added new movies to both video game documentaries and other games list.
Thanks everyone who have recommended movies to add. Some I didn't feel fit, but I still appreciate recommending them.
I am trying to keep this as strict as possible when it comes to what movies to put up. I think if I were to be a little more open this list could get out of hand.
Looking at the list now I think someday soon I'll devote some time to properly organize this list either alphabetical or by year created.
Indie Game: The Movie is absolutely effing brilliant. As an artist in another field (music) the way the meat boy guys start coming apart at the seams (especially the skinny dude) really resonated with me and reflects a lot of my experiences in making my band's first album. That documentary captures dudes in the throes of artistic insanity better than any other that I've seen.
Any artists in any field should watch it!
Edit: The "All Your History" series on Machinima's youtube channel is also excellent. They do multi-part, short documentaries on the history of various developers, game franchises, publishers, etc. Very informative stuff.
