Im only 19 so I had experience with SNES, onwards, but my fondest memories r with the n64
What is your FAVORITE Nintendo console? (Question of the Day 8-26-10)
Another really, really, REALLY tough choice . . . I went with GameCube because it has Metroid Prime 1 and 2, the Resident Evil series (I LOVE RE), Wind Waker, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Eternal Darkness, Pikmin 1 & 2, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart: Double Dash (the best Mario Kart IMHO), all the Mario Sports and Mario Party games, Animal Crossing, Four Swords Adventures, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, to quirky titles like Cubivore, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, Odama, Lost Kingdoms 1 & 2, Bloody Roar, Starfox Adventures, F-Zero GX . . . So many great games.
And a lot of games like: Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, Mario Sunshine, RE Remake, Smash Bros. Brawl, Pikmin 1, are arguably the best games in their respective series (Sunshine being a big exception but still a top-notch game) . . .
Having said that it's like choosing a favorite child. Impossible. I love all of them. From Super Metroid, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario World, F-Zero, Contra 3 on SNES to Super Mario 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon, Mischief Makers, Mario Kart 64, Mortal Kombat Trilogy/4, Turok 1 and 2, Glover, etc. on N64 to Metroid 1, the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Contra 1, Bucky O'Hare, Mario Bros. 1, 2, 3, the original Zelda, etc. on NES . . . to the Wii which TECHNICALLY can play all of the above. :P
Hard choice . . . .
And holy crap I forgot GoldenEye and Perfect Dark on N64!
IMHO NOTHING beats playing Turok on an N64 controller btw. Can't duplicate it even if it was ported to the Wii. And TONS of awesome games like Mystical Ninja, Mischief Makers, Hybrid Heaven, Glover, Turok 2, and a ton of others have NOT been ported to Wii. Either way, this is about what console is your "favorite".
I've never owned a Nintendo console, unless you count purchasing one as a wedding gift for my sister. None of the games interest me enough to buy one for myself.
I always a Sega person in The Great Console wars of the 90's. But if we're going pure Nintendo the SNES was quite the machine with some of my most memorable titles. Chronotrigger, FF2 and FF3, Illusions of Gaia, etc. Some of the best RPG's of the 90's were on that system and mode 7 always was a cool feature. So SNES is my favorite Nintendo console.
SNES. I mean I played a ton of the NES as a kid growing up as well as SNES, but the SNES was just where games really started coming into their own and started getting really creative in design, graphics and even sound.
I went with GameCube. To date, it's the only Nintendo home console I've owned. I remember picking it up, actually - it was around the time Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles came out, and I received a voucher in the post that I could exchange for a copy of the game if I bought a GameCube. That's not the only reason I picked one up, though. Without a GameCube, I never would have been exposed to the brilliance of The Legend of Zelda series, or the amazing game that is Super Smash Bros. Melee. I feel that I should add that if handhelds had been included in this poll, then the DS would have won hands-down.
It's like that Penny Arcade comic your favourite one if the one you played first.
I'm sure what you mean, because the Genesis certainly was not a failure. Both SNES and Genesis sold in the 40's of millions in the U.S.. If you mean that the 32X and Sega CD failed, then I pretty much agree." Super Nintendo for me. Sega tried so hard to beat the console by adding Sega CD and 32X to the Genesis/ Mega Drive, but it failed miserably while the SNES lived on for many more years. "
As to the question at hand, the SNES is not only the best Nintendo system, it's one of the best of any company.
Edit: Technically, the Gamecube was not 128-bit, but that generation is sometimes referred to as "128-bit."
The SNES wowed me more than any other console, of both Nintendo and competive companies.
So, só many good games!
Just three favorites:
Super Mario World (Spellbound; By just the very first game that came out on the system!)
Donkey Kong Country (The visuals, BGM etc. were incredible; Can't wait for the Remake!)
Chrono Trigger (Possibly the finest RPG ever made, and it's very unlikely it'll ever be equaled, let alone surpassed!)
N64. Staying late up at my friend's house playing Super Smash Bros till our thumbs were sore from the analog sticks aswell as playing great games like Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Banjo-Kazooie.
