Just doing a write up on the vocal tracks in the Metal Gear series, and was wondering what your favorite tracks were. I suspect "Calling to the Night" will be most popular, although I think "Love Theme" is technically the most brilliant one. What do you guys think?
What is your favorite vocal (performed) Metal Gear Solid song?
The vote has to go to Snake Eater. No other song could possibly pull off the lyric "Some day, you'll feed on a tree frog".
Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday is really amazing. I do still like the others but The Best Is Yet To Come is pretty indecipherable and Snake Eater is too much of a parody for my taste.
I wouldn't have guessed most people would choose Snake Eater. Is it just because of the ridiculous lyrics (feed on a tree frog, et al), or because the song is actually good? I don't know. I like the Abstracted Camouflage special version myself. Six minutes of eating snake. I'm still with Love Theme, though. And yes, the jazzy Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday is superb.
As obvious as it is, Love Theme is just too haunting and beautiful to ignore. The song, in conjunction with the last chapter of an amazing story, still conjures up some pretty strong feelings in me like no other media. Just the frailty, and the finality of his duty... Powerful stuff.
Snake Eater with the MGS4 Love Theme coming in a close second. I think that Metal Gear Solid 3 was highly under appreciated!
Necro as fuuuuuck.
If you've played MGS3 Way to Fall will punch you in the gut every time you hear it. Heaven's Divide, Snake Eater and Here's to You (Ground Zeroes recording) are also amazing but don't have the same impact.
Uh we gotta hear all MGSV has to offer but tentatively I have to throw another vote at Snake Eater. The song fits the game, sounds like a song from the time period of the game (not the lyrics but the actual instruments and such) and is just a ton of fun to listen to. Way to Fall is a close second. Love Song isn't bad but I actually kind of prefer it without the lyrics.
Really all of them are good on some level. There is no real wrong answer.
Snake Eater is the only answer here, and everyone that says something else doesn't understand anything about Metal Gear or music at all.
Calling to the Night
This is an interesting remix for the new game though - Fiddle Remix
The Best Is Yet To Come is probably the most memorable for me, Snake Eater is a great song too. I think 'Sins Of The Father' (from last year's E3 trailer) might be my new favourite however.

A necro, but I'm glad you posted this. Never knew the name of this song and have only heard it when playing Snake Eater. And you're right, it really makes an impact each time.
Though Best Is Yet To Come, Snake Eater, and especially Heaven's Divide are brilliant. There was one night where I just had HD going on repeat for 2 hours while I played Super Mario Bros. Wii U.
Winner: "Calling to the Night" by Natasha Farrow hits all of my buttons.
Runners Up: "Snake Eater" by Cynthia Harrel and "The Best is Yet to Come" by Aoife Ní Fhearraigh
Honorable Mention: Donna Burke. I really, really like her stuff as well. "Heaven's Divide" is a great song. The "WHOA OHHHs" she gives in "Sins of the Father" makes my hair stand on edge.
OK, it's not technically a Metal Gear Solid track, but... Oh God I just love this one so very, very much. Discounting Rising, I think Here's to You from Ground Zeroes might be my favourite.

Here's to You is extra not a Metal Gear Solid track.
Edit: I can't even comprehend why so many people are not saying Snake Eater.

...What? It was in that trailer and I'm to believe it plays somewhere in the game. It's an MGS song as far as I'm concerned.
And what you're saying there is you can't comprehend a difference of opinion.

Here's to You is from a movie. It's LESS from an MGS game than Rules of Nature is. The point of this thread is for songs that were created for Metal Gear.
Also, while I comprehend opinions, I don't comprehend it when people say things that are proven to be wrong. Such as, no gravity, water being bad for human beings, Uncharted 2 being better than Uncharted 3, and in this case, Snake Eater not being the best Metal Gear song.
I've yet to play Ground Zeroes, so I don't know if it actually counts, but I really love Sins of the Father. Way to Fall is probably second, mostly for how much I love the ending to MGS3.
@mooseymcman: So were Way to Fall and The Best is Yet To Come actually written and performed for the MGS series?

Probably, I dunno. I don't even remember "Way to Fall" off hand.
@mooseymcman: Well, that's my point. Besides Snake Eater (and I think Sins of the Father) I'm pretty sure all (if not most) of the famous songs people associate with MGS are licensed.
And Way to Fall was already posted above.
@yummylee: Nah.
@mooseymcman: Nah what? They're not all licensed? Well, list me the songs that were composed and sung for the purpose of MGS, if I'm not allowed to choose Here's to You.

Yeah I don't think "created for Metal Gear" matters. If it's a "vocal (performed) song" and in a Metal Gear Solid game, it counts.

If you mean the version of the song recorded for the end credits of MGS4, I'll allow it. Otherwise, you're a dirty rotten limey that can't abide by the rules.

Exactly my thoughts. It's still a song I'll associate with the game (despite admittedly not playing it) as much as any other for the previous games... Like its cover version for MGS4 :P
