A non sequitur (pronounced /ˌnɒnˈsiːkwɨtər or ˌnɒnˈsɛkwɨtər/) is a conversational and literary device, often used for comical purposes (as opposed to its use in formal logic). It is a comment which, due to its apparent lack of meaning relative to what it follows, seems absurd to the point of being humorous or confusing
Much like Stephen Colbert used to say "I accept your apology" when the opposing side in a debate admits he makes a point. They weren't actually apologizing, but the broken logic of his character "thinking" they did makes it a comedic device.
I know... I'm no Colbert. But I do know that "I Accept Your Apology" is one hilarious porno name.
" The way my friends and I figured it out was by taking the name of your favorite pet and your mother's maiden name. "
See, I've heard it's your first pet and the first street you lived in. Sadly, though, when I use that formula I turn out as 'Shadrack Church'. I sound like the guy who goes and watches said films in seedy cinemas, wearing a long coat of some description.
