I mean, in general, which websites opinion's do you generally trust and pay the most attention to.
personally- most:Giantbomb, destructoid, 1up
least:ign
What websites' review's mean the most/least to you?
Giant Bomb, IGN, Game Trailers and ocassionaly GameSpot.
Edit: With GameSpot, it depends on the reviewer.
Similar here. I use aggregates, and then I'll go from there to reviewers I tend to trust." Honestly, it's mostly about aggregates for me. There are some reviewers whose opinions I respect less than others, but if someone's review is a relatively large outlier, I'm more likely to dismiss it regardless of who wrote it. "
Most: none, probally gamerankings, maybe gametrailers
least: gamespot, sort of ign, don't take their reviews seriously.
No one review means any more than the next to me. I sort of take them all into consideration. I do appreciate Giant Bomb's reviews more than any other site though. They do fine work here.
Fine work.
yeah i personally dont read any reviews on any website or magazine because its base on their own experiences of the game. I like to play the game first hand to decided if its good or not.
I have two places I go for opinions on games: gamespite.net and giantbomb.com. They have two completely different focuses and it helps balance my intake of gaming news and reviews. I trust the written opinions on both websites to be sincere, and that's all I need.
Of course, gamespite is just a blog, but it covers a ton of old games.
i respect the opinions of the giant bomb crew alot because theve been doing it so long plus they dont tend to fall for alot of the hype like other websites do, if they give it a four but most other site give a three i would be more inclined to check it out and vice versa
Least would have to be ign there video reviews just seems to be pretty lackluster.
I trust GiantBomb, IGN, and Gametrailers for the most part. Don't trust gamespot. Don't understand why people have so much hate for ign though.
I tend to follow Giantbomb (or should I say jeff and co) the most due to one word "passion" its the reason why i've never been able to relate to the majority of game reviewers out there, when you listen to Jeff and the gang on the bombcast and during video reviews you can tell these guys enjoy playing video games and have a real passion for the medium, you watch your average video review on something like Gamespot or IGN and its soulless, they come across as people just reading from a teleprompter, in a tone that suggests they really could be reading anything and not care, now I don't tend to agree with there reviews all the time, they are in the end individuals who have different likes and dislikes than myself, I'll read the text review and if I like enough about the game i'll try it myself, but regardless of the difference in opinions you have to respect Jeff and Co for actually caring about what they do.
I don't really use reviews to formulate my buying decisions. I read/watch reviews of games mostly to find out how other people's experiences with a game differed from, or matched my own.
I mostly just listen to podcasts of people I enjoy and respect to see how they talk about upcoming games that aren't on my radar initially.
I respect GiantBomb the most. I also started reading/trusting GameSpy when Ryan Scott took over as a editor, and Anthony Gallegos signed on as a reviewer.
Least: The "new" 1Up, X-Play, GameSpot, IGN.
most: giant bomb by far but gametrailers is pretty trustworthy to.
least: destructoid by far, specifically by one of the reviewers there but i wont mention his name. gamespot also got pretty bad since "the incident"
It has nothing to do with the website. It's the reviewer that counts in my book. If I recognize the reviewer's name and am familiar with their tastes, then I'll listen to them. If I don't, then they are just a useful as anyone else on the internet with an opinion. At this point, I get more out of the banter found in podcasts when reviews writers talk about "whatcha been playin'" than a lot of what is written on sites.
I'd say the Most is GiantBomb, though I don't really read reviews now that I have GameFly, and I want to form my own opinion on games without coming into the game with a reviewers expectations. ( I write reviews for a website and I don't want my reviews to be influenced by others).
The least though I'd have to say is Destructoid, I never really read them much, but after PAX and seeing how much of a tool the Destructoid guy was I really didn't want to go there. Also IGN has its moments.
No website's reviews mean anything to me.
I generally only go to gaming websites for trailers (rarely), screenshots, previews, and miscellaneous video content.
I enjoy the Quick Looks here, but I don't watch them for the GB Crew's opinions on the game. I like to watch Let's Plays and speedruns of games, so the Quick Looks fit right in there. I don't watch most of the other video content here besides their in-office videos.
I do watch AVGN and similar reviews, but just to be entertained and not really for what they thought of it.
