It quickly sunk out of peoples minds anywhoo after a couple of months, so I think most people were too busy trying to remember wtf that even was, rather than having any kind of disdain for it being cancelled.
It was an idea that didn't work out, it wasn't like I bought tickets and had a date set. Sometimes things don't work out and you have to just deal with them.
They also have been giving me free content for years so its a decent exchange.
There were a few people in the comments on that article that were disappointed/said they signed up specifically for the World Tour, but I think general consensus is that it wasn't a very good idea to begin with.
Why no uproar? Maybe because it would have been only slightly cool for a small number of people but mostly a colossal waste of money that could (and now will) be spent on providing more and better content for all subscribers (and non-subscribers) to enjoy.
Is there not some rich entrepreneur on this site willing to take them under their wing and give them a world tour him or herself? :P Every website has one!
Did any of the subscription stuff actually happen as advertised in the end? The bombcast didn't end up getting split up, the World Tour got dropped, the Happy Hour stuff didn't stay member-exclusive... did the old videos end up getting HD'd? I have no idea.
I personally don't care about any of those things (and most of those decisions were ultimately right), but you know, be smarter about this stuff before announcing it so you don't have to keep backing out of it.
The tour seemed like a bit of a waste, anyway. We see the guys online in videos all fucking week. I don't need to see them in person. Not to mention, I'd rather they just make more actual content and pay the bills.
It was always up in the air whether or not they would actually go through with it, and Dave even said the idea was just one of those silly drunken rants that makes it to the next morning. Plus, the odds of them making it to my state were extremely unfavorable so I personally never got my hopes up about it.
Maybe I'll just have to settle for buying Dave a beer if he makes his way over here to Maryland for Christmas or something
Getting people to sign up just to see some internet dudes appear in your country always sounded a bit silly to me. Glad they thought about it again and realised the nonsense. They should still check out other countries when they get the chance though, but in a more realistic scale.
I would have gained no benefit from it since I live in the US and not any of the places they'd visit. I felt the money would have been much better used on the site to benefit all. But I said nothing because I'm privileged to have access to them at any PAX or when I drive to San Francisco and stare at their offices through my binoculars. So I'm both happy it was canceled and sorry for people who live far away and can't join in the fun.
Well I know I wouldn't have gone anyway. They seem like great people but going to a gathering of GB members just to meet them.. not something I'd do. They'd have lost a lot more money than they gained.
I didn't actually think it going to happen in the first place. It's a little much to ask your audience to support such a big venture as a World Tour when much of that audience is living check to check if they are even working at all.
If you subscribed just to get this to happen then the person has bigger issues than the world tour being cancelled. They tried...they didn't get the subs needed for it...that's it. 'Nuff said.
