Spider-Man coming to Marvel's Avengers, exclusive to PS4/PS5
@hatking: To be fair, most of the MCU versions of these characters look pretty accurate to the comic versions, it's not like the early X-Men days with their black leather. When the Thor in the movies looks pretty much like Thor from the comics, obviously other adaptations based on his comic look will look like the movies as well.
@ll_exile_ll: Sure, but even the comics have been heavily influenced by the success of the Marvel movies for the last decade. I think they should have either gone and got those (prohibitively expensive) likeness rights, or just gone for a more inked/comic art style. But frankly this game was never going to be for me, so I don't really have a horse in the race.
That's a good "to be fair", but I agree with the general consensus that they took a half measure and in so doing made some very recognizable characters look like bad cosplay. Thor actually looks okay, but the rest of the cast so far has looked like the sort of generic actors you see in a daytime soap opera rather than a big budget megaplex bonanza. But I also do think there's a psychological effect that spares something like Marvel's Spider-Man, where we've become so used to seeing different actors occupy those roles whereas there's like 30 hours of footage of Lucas Lee in the role of Steve Rogers.
That said, I can't help but be intrigued by this game. It feels like so little of it has been shown and yet I feel like I know exactly what it is, and I wonder...is this game going to be Anthem But Good™? Or is it going to have to bend so incredibly over backwards to be approachable to 10 year olds (and convince them to beg mommy for more A-bucks so they can get the limited edition symbiote suit) that the end result is a bland button masher full of whimpering bells and whistles?
I guess I don't feel like I know exactly what it is, haha. But it's coming in about a month and I'm curious as to why we haven't been absolutely bludgeoned with info about this thing.
Console exclusivity on third-party games is always gross. It's a reality of modern game publishing. But it's always, always, always gross.
This one, though. This is a really particular kind of gross. God forbid anyone was hoping to play with Marvel's most iconic character anywhere but on a Sony platform.
I agree that this is gross, but I also would like to point out that usually these things ends up being kind of a range from pointless to bad. They aren't going to make a huge part of this multi-platform game just exclusive to the Playstation version, so just like most exclusive DLC it will end up not really mattering, IMO.
It is beyond shitty though, regardless.
I don't get it. Why are people upset about this again? Were people actually excited for this anyways? I really just don't see why this even matters.
I wasn't really excited about this game anyways, and if I were to play it, it would likely be on the PS4, but it is absolutely wild that one of the most iconic and well-known Marvel heroes is a console exclusive. I could see cosmetics/skins going this way, but an entire major character seems crazy.

Why are two-thirds of the potential install base for a Marvel game upset that arguably the most coveted Marvel character won't be available on their platform? I don't know. You tell me.
There's always someone, somewhere excited for something. For the record, I haven't been impressed by much of the pre-release coverage either. But that doesn't negate the fact that this is a pretty significant exclusion.
I might be going crazy, but I swear one of the staff said something like this during early coverage of this game way back when, calling that Spidey would be a ps4 special due to Marvel's Spider-Man being ps4 exclusive.
A bummer either way though, for sure. Though maybe not the biggest disappointment in the world if the game turns out to be lackluster like every preview has made it out to be, which bums be out as a huge Marvel fan.
Bring back Marvel Heroes :(

Announcing that one of, if not THE most popular super hero character in the world is coming to the game a month or so before launch, but won't be coming to 2 versions of the game which will cost the exact same amount of money as the others is kind of a kick in the balls for anyone that was holding out hope for the game. The game may end up sucking and Spider-man may end up not being great in it, but announcing "hey you won't be getting this stuff if you play here" when people are still skeptical about the game is...not great.
And again, it's Spider-man, it's not like they are getting Wonderman or Moon Knight, character that the movie fans probably don't care about, this is kinda like if they announced a new Injustice game with Batman being locked to Playstation consoles.
God, I hate this practice of console exclusivity of features, but damn if it didn’t work on me. Between Spidey and the PS4 beta this Friday, I plonked down a preorder this weekend on PSN even though I’d much rather play on my One X. But then, how does this really move the needle for Sony? We’re so far into this gen that most people made their platform selection long ago, and it only matters to PS/Xbox owners like me who are crazy enough to buy both. It can’t be that large of a demographic!
Fuck that. I was cautiously optimistic about the game after the Wartables, but I have no interest in chugging through this on my base PS4 as opposed to my PC or One X just to get the "full experience." I suppose this also dashes any slim chances for crossplay coming down the line, too. I'm not generally all that annoyed by exclusives, but siloing off substantial portions of a game on one platform while still charging full price for all the SKUs (compared to locking a full game down on one platform or minor cosmetics or early DLC deals) is super gross.
That's a bummer! The more they've shown of this game, the better it looks. I remember the early looks were tbh kind of embarassing. Like, y'all were making an Avengers game proper and this is what it is?
But the recent stuff with Kamala, Modok, the AI partners, the war table co-op stuff, hero customization, it looks quite fun!
And yeah, them saying they're gonna keep releasing heroes and stuff for free is great, but the console exclusivity here is lame.
I guess this is a smart move for Sony??? If I was planning on getting this game I would almost certainly get it for Playstation because of this. That being said this game looks fucking terrible and I have no plans to get it at all. Still, having console exclusive content like this really sucks as a general principle.
