That is why alot of the long time users at GS have left. I was getting modded even when I was trying to follow rules. They only see black and white, I got a 7 day suspension for telling another user the argument we were having was stupid. Its not the same anymore, almost all the good posters are gone.
No, that's done to everybody, in a nearly totalitarian method. I myself have never been subjected to it. That being said, I've seen tons of instances where the moderator intervention was entirely unnecessary. I find it funny that your only response to anything is "forum rules don't apply to them for some reason". It's done to many undeserving users, earning your community one of the worst reputations there is. The rules are bent and interpreted differently by every moderator, in such ridiculous and harsh ways that the usually respected position you have there is hated and scorned by many.
No but really, how could you get someone to moderate a forum without paying the something? That would be the absolute worst to have to deal with all the garbage that goes on in forums. Was GS the only place that didn't pay?

Wow, that is just ridiculous. Why the heck would anyone take that "job" then. I always thought mods were paid. Well then here's my "Ask CaseyW" question. Why the heck would you be a mod? It would take a shitload of money for me to have to deal with all the crap that come with being a mod. Why would you do it for free?

Are we supposed to chronicle our experiences? You could ask anyone for examples of almost every situation that you know to be true, and oftentimes you never get anything specific. Where would the entire generalization pop up from if it weren't? Where would I have possibly seen these? They come from all kinds of posts, things calling a game flaw "stupid", something criticizing a game developer or spokesman, things criticizing other people's ideas, other people's attitudes in general. Most were legitimate posts that happened to have something a moderator did not like, and so they were deleted. You wonder why you get no thanks for your job? Many other people may not like mods, but most respect them. You, however, have none of that respect, from almost anybody. Why do you think that is?
i'm not expecting every experience to be chronicled in detail in case one day somebody asked about it. i'm just asking for some truthful examples. if there are so many then it should be an easy thing to provide. you'd be surpised by the amount of respect i do get. it's the people who refuse to admit that they screwed up and are to immature to admit that they could ever be wrong who despise me.

It's that kind of closed-minded, holier-than-thou approach to your interactions with other people that garner the negative response you claim doesn't exist outside the dregs and outcasts.

The porn suicide treads are great, good times at GS. Those always crack me up.
I would imagine most of the latter and half of the former, with the former continuing to be as illicit as they please; but with the intelligence to circumvent obvious moderation.
then there's also the deal where you end up being the public face for a certain forum's moderations. people assume that every moderation done in that forum and every new rule stickied has been done by that moderator. even after explaining that it's not the case, people will ignore it and see only what they want to see. these are things i see every single day. not every forum is right for everybody. people have different reasons for going to them.
