1. Brokeback Mountain (never ever have cried as much. I am a softie)
2. My Life Without Me (sigh, melancholy mixed with joy of living)
3. Bad Education (only because the majestic All About My Mother was made 1999)
4. Kill Bill 1 (and then 2)
5. Eternal Sunshine Of the Spotless Mind (The concept and the execution and the ending!!)
6. Crash
7. Million Dollar Baby (like many of Clint`s movies is just amazing in it`s rawness)
8. Notting Hill
9. Requiem For A Dream (the theme tune still plays in my head)
10. Hours

a lot of people say mulholland drive, but for me, the ony reason that movie is good and consider good by any other guy is because it has amazing lesbian sex scenes SO HOT!

I'll probably be flamed for this, but whatever, and I don't watch too many movies.
1.) Star Wars Episode III
2.) The Dark Knight
3.) Black Hawk Down
4.) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
5.) Gladiator
6.) Kingdom of Heaven
and those are the 6 that come to mind at this moment.

Off the top of my head, ,Babel and the Lord of the rings Trilogy. Ill be in the minority and say Stranger than Fiction as well. That movie needs more praise. I mean, if you can make Will Farrell do a relatively serious movie, thats instant win.

I very disappointed and kinda shocked that no one here mentioned:

- Blue Velvet.
- The Big Lebowski.

Shame on all of you.

Good lists - apart from those naming films from the 80s! ;) -  but I'm surprised Sin City hasn't been mentioned, unless I've missed it somewhere.  I thought SC was incredible.  I wouldn't say these were the 'best' necessarily, but perhaps the ones I most enjoyed:
__
Gladiator
LOTR Trilogy
Sin City
Bourne Trilogy
Black Hawk Down
Hero
City of God
Munich
Master & Commander
Boiler Room

--

I thought No Country For Old Men, The Departed and Children of Men were all a bit overrated.  Haven't seen The Dark Knight or There Will Be Blood yet.

You're right on the money about City of God, but also:

- Brokeback Mountain
- Let the Right One In (Sweden)

There are MANY more films that I can name, as I see films left and right, however, those are the two that stand out to me as immaculate films.

To be different, I listed just one movie from each of the past 9 years.  These aren't necessarily my favorite films for those years but they are the ones I enjoyed as well as thought were movies of superior quality.

The Perfect Storm (2000)
Amelie (2001)
Spirited Away (2002)
Lost in Translation (2003)
Ray (2004)
Goodnight & Good Luck (2005)
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
No Country for Old Men (2007)
Wall-E (2008)
500 Days of Summer (2009)*

*might change since the year isn't over yet.
