Without the Doors, you wouldn't have grunge music.

So shut the fuck up. And if you think Grunge sucks too, you need to go listen to Fallout Kiss Boy Disco

It's a fact.

Compare "Otherside" to "Smells like Teen Spirit." Especially the ending, where Jim Morrison paraphrases with the growl.

If you think Grunge could've formed without The Doors, you're sorely mistaken.

No Nirvana?  No Meat Puppets?

Okay.  I could live with that easily.

= D  The Doors still suck.  How they are related to grunge...I don't even understand.  Grunge was more of an influence from boredom and Black Sabbath.

Besides, I'm a metalhead anyways.  = D

Grunge was not influenced from Black Sabbath.

That's an insult.

Btw, if you don't see the similarity between the Doors and Grunge, then you probably listen to Fallout Shit

If The Doors weren't there, I doubt it would mean grunge didn't exist. They'd have just got their influences from somewhere else. What's Fallout Shit?

Having grown up during the Grunge era...I can almost guarantee that I know a little bit about Grunge in general.  By all means, if you wanna go back to all the 120 Minutes and Alternative Nation interviews with Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Meat Puppets, Pearl Jam, Seven Mary Three, Sponge, Stone Temple Pilots, and the likes...be my guest.  Hell, I'm sure you could always hit Matt Pinfield up and he'll set your stupid ass straight on it as well.  = D

The Doors may have influenced Scott Weiland's mental retardation, but other than that...drug use and crazy antics are about all you will get.  That dood seriously needs to lower his voice and get back on heroin...because nothing says "ROCK THE FUCK OUT" like Core or Purple.

How is that a way of looking at things in a 'far too linear way'?  The Doors changed music during the 60s and to say that that had no influence on future bands to come then that it just ignorant.  If you don't like a band whatever that is your opinion and you are welcome to it.  But you need to respect what bands have done for music in general.  For example I am not too big of a Led Zeppelin fan, but I can respect what they have done for rock music.

I have no problem with saying that The Doors may have been influences to ARTISTS...but to inspiring an entire genre of music?  NOPE!!!

Because if The Doors weren't there, someone else would have changed music during the 60s. Someone changes music every decade for better or worse. And I highly doubt that the pioneers of grunge look only to The Doors as their main influence. If you're going to be like that, you could say that grunge wouldn't have existed without the guy who invented the guitar. Odds are that the artists themselves and their lives, interests and the society they thrived in was what made grunge and we should be thanking them rather than thanking a band with no direct control on the situation.

I actually do not agree with the statement that the Doors influenced grunge particularly, if anyone had a hand in that it was Neil Young.  However saying that the Doors had no impact on music is a lie.  HandsomeDead said:

As much as I find Blink 182 lame and unoriginal, they did not invent the atrocious spread of emo

As for that statement.  The Beatles pretty much ripped off American music and fed it back to us.  If anyone formed rock it was Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters.

The Beatles formed Rock?  REALLY?!  Dood, LAWL!!!  Chuck Berry invented Rock.  Elvis invented Rock.  The Beatles invented psychadelic rock MAYBE, and the fascination of teenie boppers!!!

The Doors didn't form Grunge.  Black Sabbath has a much bigger hand in that than The Doors do in terms of direct sound and approach.  Note the doom and gloom vibe of grunge.  Go back and listen to some Sabbath, then plug in some Alice in Chains.

Seriously, please....just stop talking.  I've been jamming a wide variety and eclectic choice of music since you were shitting green in your Huggies, son.  I was brought into this world with AC/DC's Back in Black blaring on a stereo.

And FYI - Dashboard Confessional and Alkaline Trio are responsible for emo...not Blink182.  Blink182 is simply a product of The Ramones and Green Day influence.

You do know that the Beatles and the Stones were pretty much Chuck Berry cover bands right?

At first I started posting to back a fellow Doors fan, but now I am thinking that your logic of music is very flawed

Only thing you've said that is remotely right.

Just because The Doors came before Sabbath, though...that doesn't mean The Doors are what influenced AN ENTIRE GENRE OF MUSIC!!!  The artists themselves may have been influenced, but not THE MUSIC!!!

God, I give up trying to talk about music theory to a brick wall...

The Doors path'd the way for Grunge Music.

If you would listen to them, you would hear it.

And the first words out of your mouth was "The Doors Suck", so I doubt anyone would take you seriously.

Absurd...that was...well...absurd.  I've never seen that before...and it was hilarious!  Far better than The Doors.

Way, I've been listening to Fear Factory and Machine Head since they came out...and...yeah, they ARE metal.  Whether you like it or not...

As for The Doors, they still suck.  Jim Morrison was a horrible singer with little to no tone, and most of the time it just sounded like a drunken slur.  The musical arrangements were very crowded and craptacular in both tone and skill.  The harpsichord was the only dood thing about that entire band.  Other than that, they were a weak band that did nothing more than take advantage of the "peace, love, and drugs" times that they lived in.  Had there been no peace, love, and drugs time...they would've never existed.
