I know I need an inverter to switch from DC to AC and probably some more stuff. But if I have all that, will it work?

And how much would it hold me until the battery stops working?

Also, would a special car battery recharging solar panel fully recharge the battery if it never goes below 10.5 V?

A normal car battery is not the right kind to do this. Car batteries are designed to be used in conjunction with an alternator. They are there to provide a lot of amps at one time, just to turn over the engine and get the alternator going.

What you want for this application is a deep cycle marine battery.

I'm not going to say whether you can do it or not, since I'm no expert on the subject, but it sounds like a recipe for (maybe not disaster) but at least something bad.

Couple days back I read about a guy planning to buy 5 7970's. Now someone is trying to hook up a full-blown setup in their car. People have way too much disposable income.

What was he going to do with them? Like at that point surely a more effective use for them is as paper weights.

Since he asked about solar charging, I assumed he was attempting to play his games in a slightly more "green" way. The whole line of questioning is pointless if he has everything in a vehicle.

Depends what you re talking about.

Are you going to be setting up a ps3 and tv in your car ?

Or just using batteries to power them ?

Consoles and tvs and that usually use dc anyway but you would need to open them up and connect the batteries to the other side of the transformer since the ps3 and most tvs have the transformer built in.

I don't see any potential downsides here. This seems like a perfectly reasonable idea that can be executed without much thought. Do it.*

*Don't actually do it.

No for a car battery , and you would need realy large solar panels.

if your driving around you might be fine, but it depends on how big your tv is. If your stationary you might get 15min-3hrs

I remember watching a programme on an amish exchange and one of the guys who came back and gave up the amish ways said he'd run his PS2 off the car battery because their houses weren't fitted with electricity, might work with a PS3 with the right connections?

There are too many factors to say yes or no to this, is it in a running car, is it not? How big is the TV, how much power do they use (an issue when running batteries for anything)

Long story short is this, probably not for very long and a trickle charge solar panel will not provide anywhere near enough power to charge the battery and run all this equipment. You need deep cycle batteries and at least a good 1kW solar panel to run exclusively off of them.

It depends on how much power your PS3 and TV take and your battery can deliver, but it does all seem quite feasible, especially for the PS3 slim and smaller LCD type TVs. The older PS3 (fat) models and CRT (tube) type TV sets consume much more power... You would always need to make sure that your inverter can deliver more than the power required by your PS3 and TV combined.

The amount of time you could use such a set-up depends on the battery and what you're doing on the system and TV (i.e. using the disk or playing loud sounds), but could last for many hours in the right circumstances. It is quite easy to double up on batteries, or use increased power rated batteries to improve time between charges.

If you change the output to whatever the network output at your location is. I'm no electrician but I think the device is called converter. But I can tell you that Battery will be drained in no time and using a photovoltaic plate to recharge it will not recharge it fast enough to keep it running. Google might help :)

Pretty much what others said here. A large, deep cycle marine battery (not cheap) and an inverter will do the job. We run a small B&W tv off that during extended power outages and not running a generator. No solar kit that I know of will keep up with the drain. I'm sure there is one out there, but it will be expensive and large.
