Do you listen to any foreign language bands, or do you only listen to your main language?
I listen to Rammstein (German) and Maximum The Hormone (Japanese), but the rest of my music is in English. I don't speak German or Japanese, so I don't have a clue what they're saying unless I look up a translation, yet the're still awesome to me.
The majority of my music is from Germany, but they sing/scream in English anyways, so I suppose they don't count.
Do you listen to foreign language music?
The lyrics of Rammstein are mostly would-be-shocking drivel, nothing to write home about. To answer the question, I like Banghra and Reggea/Dancehall, though the vast majority of the music I usually listen to is instrumental. I don't like vocals in general, especially not in my own language. I prefer English, it just sounds better.
Beyond some game music I have thats in Japanese I only own music in English; I don't have anything against music in other languages but I just haven't discovered any bands I'd listen to much in foreign languages yet.
I used to listen to some music that I found in animes. But, if I couldn't find the meaning to the songs I didn't enjoy them as much.
Add me to that." Yeah...i listen to Rammstien too.. "
Sometimes foreign language music crosses over. I remember the 70s with Plastic Bertrand - Ca Plane Pour Moi. The 80s, Nena - 99 Luft Balloons, Faco - Der Kommisar.
Generally though, I don't go looking for it.
Tinariwen ( Tamashek: ⵜⵏⵔⵓⵏ "empty places") is a band formed in 1982 of Tuareg people who had been conscripted into Muammar al-Gaddafi's army. They play in the Tishoumaren ("music of the unemployed") style, and sing mostly in the French and Tamashek languages.
Mago De Oz, basque folk-metal band
Asian Kung Fu Generation
Cajun Music
Some Irish trad music even though thats not foreign just a language I dont speak
Kraftwerk the songs sound best in German.
Eh Ive listened to some Ayumi back in my day, but to be honest most of mine is English, wish I could listen to some Spanish Music though considering I'm learning the language.
-- God Bless.
Im french so the english music I listen to is foreign....I listen to mostly french & english music, I listen to some norwegian metal but that's about it
No, not really. I've always wanted to get into Rammstein but I've always been too lazy to get their music.
" See now, this is where you went wrong. Giant Bomb is an international site, meaning not everyone speak English. For instance, I'm from Sweden but listen to almost only English music, meaning I listen to foreign music only. "How did I go wrong there? English music is foreign for you, thus the answer is yes... It's universal. I didn't ask "Do you listen to non-English music?", but rather to what isn't your primary language. I know many people from other countries who speak english, yet almost exclusively listen to music of their own language. So it's just as likely that someone would only listen to music in German, for example, as it is for someone to only listen to English.
All the music i listen to is foreign, its all sung in English, and i´m neither American or British. But i also listen to German stuff. The bands i listen to thats from my country all sing in english too, its very rare for them to sing in their native tongue.
Hmm, it seems people are also counting foreign bands that don't speak a foreign language... In that case, about 2/3 of my music is foreign.
Arch Enemy, Caliban, Neaera, Blindside, 6th Awakening, Rammstein, Maximum The Hormone, Heaven Shall Burn, Amon Amarth...
The only American bands I listen to are As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, Dethklok, Nile and Unearth.
I'm Dutch, and most of the music I listen to is, like everyone else, English. Dutch is no language to be sung, it's just a torture to listen to!
Though most Dutch bands sing in English, the so called Nederpop (Dutch-pop / Music written by ) is awfully bad.
Three examples of what Dutch people mostly listen to . . . .
The first one is really, really bad. Although the video is embedded in this post, it doesn't mean you should listen to it. You are warned, your head may explode . . .
Jan Smit - Boom Boom Bailando
The second and third one, are actually quite good, musically. . . .
. . . . But that's just Robbie Williams shrunk to a compact 1.35m.
Of course we've got our Half Belgium / half canadian Milow. But he's quite the fag and doesn't count. Anyone with complexes as deep as that guy should be treated and not been given a guitar.
But I'm just glad to be Dutch. Just imagine being German and listening to this abomination of music every single day, it's called rock-schlager. . .
Do you guys in America / Asia or Africa also have this kind of awful torture?
Most of my music is Jrock and pop and techinically since i'm not from the states all the music I listen to is foreign.
Dude, I can dig it.
Anyways, we have our own local abominations.
I know they're known in most places as well, but we have to be associated with them, and it makes me rather ashamed to be on the same continent.
The Black Eyed Peas... Such brilliant lyrics.
"I'm so three thousand and eight, you so two thousand and late." "Them chickens jackin' my style" "Beat so big I'm steppin' on leprechauns."
They also manage to have terrible vocals, even with a vocoder. Fail.

That vocoder thing seems to be very popular these days (BEP / Usher etc.). It's just awful.
For the Black Eyed Peas . . .They should be ashamed! they had a good thing going but blew it for me after "Where is the love?".
Ruh? Freaky...those are the foreign language bands I listen to. That and Namie Amuro, she is so freaking hot."
