Do you still download items illegally? (Question of the Day 1-20-11)
I still illegally download single songs once in a while, but lately I've been buying albums and soundtracks (AC2, Tron, Halo ODST).
Edit: Downloading single songs once in a while is annoying though, so it's becoming rarer over time. These days if I don't buy and set of music I generally just get it through youtube rather than download it.
mmm I usually do it to see if i like something. I also do it if the content isn't available to me otherwise. I never pirate content thats available on hulu, netflix, adultswim, etc. I also use steam to the fullest extent as to whats available. I also do the same with music generally, though im more willing to pirate music if im really on the fence whether its something I might like or not though I also tend to try and find the artist on last.fm if I can.
Generally the way things are going for music, the music itself the the advertising vehicle for the live shows which are where the artists make the bulk of their money. Just an opinion of the trend of music
oooohhhh pandora I use for the bulk of the music when im at home. Dont have a mobile device that supports pandora
Not games, but I do download music. BUT that is only when the song/album has not actually been released in NA. I literally have no other choice.
Mostly all music and the occasional tv shows that I don't feel like waiting for to come out on dvd/bluray.
I like to rationalize my less than legitimate habits by buying overpriced merchandise and concert tickets to my favorite bands' shows.
I only convert mp3's of youtube videos, when there is absolutely no other way of getting them. i.e. various remixes.
only stuff I can't easily get here in New Zealand like US tv shows which take for every to get here and anime which almost never gets here, thanks to steam I own pretty much every game I've pirated when I was a poor ass student and have brought many more than I probably should have =P but I have downloaded games that get released early and have pre-ordered but steam doesn't have a pre-load, have also played a few nds roms on the emulator to make sure they where what I expected before buying
Most of the music I listen to is not the biggest mainstream stuff. So my favorite musicians do not make a whole lot of money. If I didn't buy their music then I would be a fucking asshole. I buy all of my music, and I buy a lot. I want them to be able to keep doing what they are doing.
I end up pirating a lot of music (Don't use itunes and amazons downloads don't have the widest selection yet) and i'll download a tv show if i miss an episode. I will end up buying a physical copy of a cd if I end up really enjoying it.
Mainly I pirate out of convenience, not because i'm cheap...not sure if that makes it better or worse.
I have pirated certain games I wouldn't have bought on PC just to try them (they usually don't last me an hour, so I don't get much satisfaction), and with Steam it's SO easy to get games for cheap, and the Humble Bundle has been nice giving me Braid and the first bundle on Steam for only paying for the second one.
Most of my music sadly is pirated, I am trying I damn hardest to get a job, and when I do I assure all of you that I will go through iTunes and buy every album that I have pirated, even if I don't like the band anymore or haven't listened to that album in ages, but I did enjoy them once and so I must pay for them.
Movies and TV shows, IDK why, but I just don't EVER pirate them, it's just too much of a hassle.
Software, well, only Windows and PS, things like Nod32 and Malware Bytes I buy because it seems right to support them. Microsoft has too much money (I don't like being my excuse but w/e), and I only use PS when I need to easily edit something, or make something quick, I don't use it to make profit.
Can't believe I wrote this, me going DOWN!
" Yes, but as much as I used to. I have cut down considerably. "So you haven't changed at all?
