I wouldn't say I can think of any famous gay people who I thought were straight. There are plenty of famous gay people who I didn't know were gay (Derren Brown is the first name that jumps to mind), but none that I actually thought were straight.
Well, I didn't know Jónsi Birgisson was a guy person until I checked, not that that disturbs me or anything. I don't get disappointed if I find out a respected artists is homossexual, and even if I do, it doesn't change my opinion about him much. If he were a commie though...
He isn't a celeb. But he is a great musician, and the rest of the band too.
Ian McKellen. Albeit, he came out 21 years ago, I didn't know up until a few days ago. It doesn't change how I view him, I think he is a pretty good actor. I liked him in the LOTR movies, and I'm glad he'll be back in the Hobbit films.
There are always those that you just know are homosexual but dont come out and say it. Its not like anyone doesnt already know, coming out wont do anything. It was not surprising, but the girls he dated sure felt stupid. BUt there are none that come to mind when I can't see it coming. My gaydar is pretty well tuned. Lesbians are sometimes harder to spot. Because sometimes you have those ugly bitches that no man would touch, so they have no choice but to go Lesbo. Rosie O'Donnel is the best example of that I think.
I was suprised when i found out NPH was gay, but only because he played such a womanizer in How I Met Your Mother. But i really couldn't care less about his sexual orientation, he's still awesome.

I only just learned a few days ago that Neil Patrick Harris was gay(now i get his character in the Harold and Kumar movies). And because of this thread i just learn't Iam Mckellan was gay.
@MrSnow: Don't let someone's sexuality influence the movies you think about / watch / purchase. Unless it is X-Men 3, of course. Not a good film, to say the least. Not encouraging to have sexuality influence you in that film, either.

I remember before Vin Diesel had his kids and got with that woman, there were a lot of rumours that he was bisexual which he didn't prove nor disprove. I'd hate to sound ignorant or sexual-ist, but some of these celebrities have disappointed me. Sir Ian McKellen? Noooooooooo... Not that it matters, but it does change my opinion about them.
