Marilyn Manson - Born Villain has been my favorite by far this year. It's a good return to form with him after High End Of Low which was different, but slightly a little too different. Also, Johnny Depp can play some awesome guitar.

@DillonWerner: Damn you! You stole my answer!

The downside to that Tanlines album, though, is that "Brothers" is maybe my favorite track, but it's also the first. Hate when that happens.

Though, I don't think there's one album that's my favorite yet, but here are some tracks from my other favorite albums of the year.

Moonface - With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery

Grimes - Visions

Liars - WIXIW

Punch Brothers - Who's Feeling Young Now?

Bonus second track for incredible musicianship:

Japandroids' new album, Celebration Rock is so good. The most focused, tight, fun album I've heard this year.

El-P's new one, Cancer 4 Cure, is also fantastic.

And I would be remiss if I didn't mention Death Grips' The Money Store, Andrew Bird's Break it Yourself, Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music, and THEESatisfaction's awE naturalE.

While it's an EP and not an album, The M Machine's Metropolis Pt 1 is one of my favourite musical discoveries of 2012.

Nice. Vocals are just like Hot Chip.

Pala by Friendly Fires (same with El Camino by The Black Keys) came out last year I think? Though I only really got around to listening to it in December or something. Good album.

Something by Chairlift was a good album I picked up in January though. Most of the other albums I've bought this year haven't been quite as new.

Unless you just mean stuff that you've only just gotten around to listening this year, in which case Royksopp has been one of my favourite new discoveries. Melody A.M. is a fantastic album from start to finish.

@CrossTheAtlantic: I adore that Grimes single (and its video), but I haven't found any other tracks by her to live up to it. Is the full record worth getting?

Also, I'm really just looking forward to the forthcoming Converge record. I haven't been too thrilled about the music released so far this year.

Also EPs, splits, singles, whatever etc. by Thou, Electric Wizard, ASAP Rocky, Xibalba, Incendiary, Muknal

Still lot's of stuff I have to catch up on, but I'm looking forward to new Baroness, Pig Destroyer, Converge, and whatever ASAP Rocky does.

@Whampire: Well, I really like the album, but that track is pretty much the highlight for me (and, ugh, that video. so good.). Not much else on the album is that good, though other songs aren't at all bad. My second favorite is actually right after that track:

Hmmm... I haven't listened to a single album that's come out this year and I don't recognize 90 percent of what's been mentioned in this thread. Skimmed a bunch of the vids real quick, but that's a terrible way to find music.

Aw well, I'm perfectly fine pretending music stopped being made after the 90's.

Mr. Oizo- Stade 3
Krazy Baldhead- The Noise in The Sky
Meshuggah- Koloss
Chippy Nonstop- Global School of Twerk

It's been pretty good so far. I hope Devin Townsend gets Epicloud out this year, so he can hurry up and get to work on Ziltoid 2.

I don't even care for Post Rock all that much but that album is pretty badass. To be honest, I haven't listened to much new shit this year =/

  • Gojira - L'enfant Sauvage
  • Meshuggah - Koloss
  • Tesseract - Perspective EP (just because it was an interesting experiment with a vocalist that I wasn't totally psyched about being in that band)
  • Periphery - II: This Time It's Personal

Indeed at these. Of those four, Periphery I think takes it (Gojira comes close second). And apparently Elliott has already left Tesseract, so we won't even get a full length with him.

To further add to this list::

  1. Sigur Rós - Valtari (probably my personal fave this year so far)
  2. Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I
  3. Anathema - Weather Systems (this is a fantastic record)
  4. Rush - Clockwork Angels
  5. Circus Maximus - Nine
  6. Arjen Anthony Lucassen - Lost In The New Real
  7. Silversun Pickups - Neck of The Woods
  8. Lamb of God - Resolution (I actually quite enjoy this record)
  9. OSI - Fire Make Thunder
  10. The Mars Volta - Noctourniquet

And we still got new Katatonia, and Devin Townsend coming in the next couple of months. HELL YEAH.

I haven't really listened to anything new this year. I used to really love The Mars Volta and Dethklok, so I've been thinking of listening to TMV and Brendon Small's new records, possibly.

Everything else I'm open to suggestions on. I'm not super-picky, or well-versed in any band/genre, so anything's good.
