Does anyone find the fact that this forum actually creates it's user base selectively kind of ridiculous? It's a great forum and I would love to post on it, but it's pretty amazing that it's closed off.
Getting into NeoGAF.
A lot of forums use that. I understand wanting to keep assholes out of the forums, but there's probably a better way
" A lot of forums use that. I understand wanting to keep assholes out of the forums, but there's probably a better way "NeoGAF operates on the principal of removing reasonable people and only keeping the assholes. They're hoping to rival 4chan by copying all their jokes and using lots of image macros but they haven't quite grasped the anarchy thing yet.
Pretty sure they accept just anyone so there's no "hive mind". After all, prior to actually posting, they can't know your habits... Of course they often ban ppl too. Still, there's a pretty diverse selection of people just as in any other community. Fanboys of any alignment, and rational people that enjoy all systems equally, which is why I use it as a news source since someone from some alignment will post about pretty much anything out there. There's no "hive mind" that I can tell, and even their fanboyism often seems to stay in its own circles, leaving people who discuss rationally alone. Certain threads do go pretty bad though, but with the bans people don't seem to get too ridiculous and at least have to provide the impression of valid reasoning. Too many inside memes though, and you often don't know who's being serious and who's isn't.

Well I do think that it is ridiculous that you have to have a paid email account. I had to use my college email address. Took me two months before I got my acceptance email.
NeoGaf is terrible, they are full of some of the worst elitist gamers on the internet, which is really saying something. Their registration system is completely indicative of this. You are better off not being registered for that cess pool unless its to do some trolling or to see how fucking terrible a community it is.
" @Wolverine said:And people with that though couldn't be farther from the truth. *sigh* Oh well, keeps them away from here! ;)" @aceedkins: I'm happy here at Giant Bomb. I really don't understand what is so great about NeoGAF. "People seem to think that chaotic forums>calmer, quieter forums, which is totally not true. "
I signed up in December 08 and just now got accepted. It's kind of lost all of its mystic knowing that I can now post on it. I usually lurk it for news and the occasional sales thread but other then that there isn't much. Funny to see people that make the games respond to criticism though.
I guess it makes its members feel good about themselves to be selected like that. From what I've lurked, it's pretty stupid place.
It's pretty redonkulous, but I do feel like a better person for being a member. Now I just need to give a blow job to one of the mods so I can actually post a thread.
" Wait, how the hell did this get resurrected? "It rose from the dead as God did.
