Giant Bomb had a fantastic first year, but what do you think the site will be like in 5 years time?
Giant Bomb in 5 years time
As long as it exists in 5 years time, I'll be happy.
There are already enough assholes here that I'm not really sure more assholes really matters. It's sort of hit the asshole threshold :)
I think what might help us figure out what it might be like would be to see what tactics they use to attract new viewers and members. The tactics they use, if they target a certain crowd, may change the face of this place through their demands, and their tendency to click on certain ads.
Why is this Off-Topic, by the way, and not General Discussion? What even qualifies as General Discussion anymore? :)
" In 5 years time Giant Bomb will be the definitive source for video game info. Need info on a video game? No-one will go to wikipedia or anywhere else, they'll come to Giant Bomb. That's what I hope anyway. "That would be the coolest thing ever. I think I've already seen some pages filled out better here than on wikipedia and I know I only use GB when looking up game info.
The forums will turn into 4chan-meme spamming 12 year old dick heads.
The Staff will still be doing the same thing, and all the question of the week responses are going to be worse than what they are now (Which is pretty bad IMO)
I think the site will be more varied, but probably similar in scope. Jeff and Co. don't seem too keen on bringing in alot of new staff, so any expansion on that front will be slow and measured, if at all. The forums will go the route of every other site, which is to say it will have lost it's personal spark.
" @Dethfish77 said:Yes, hopefully the mods can lock down the assholes, idiots and fanboys before they get out of control." The community will probably be full of assholes by then. "Not if I can help it. "
I don't want to see a system wars forum in 5 years either.
" @CitizenKane said:Trust me, that is the last thing we want. But, we can't do it on our own. We need the help of you guys, too!" @Dethfish77 said:Yes, hopefully the mods can lock down the assholes, idiots and fanboys before they get out of control. " More assholes, more ads, and then someone will fire jeff. Its a never ending cycle. "More assholes, probably, but the mods take care of any idiots that join nowadays, so that's not a problem
More ads, no. I can't see Giant Bomb taking the same path as GameSpot and GameFAQs where the entire background is an ad
Jeff can't be fired.

I agree there will be more assholes, it seemed like at the start we had a fairly good group of people posting in the forums, and maybe a few odds like the CanadianGirl, Dualreaver and Levio, but now it seems there are a fucking ton of assholes that just post dick head comments in every thread, it's a real piss off because they think they are an invincible force on the internet but are just hiding behind there monitors.
" at the end of the day its a video game website, stop talking about it like its our baby "I second that.
It's a website with great content. If it continues to provide great content then it will even better in 5 years. An ER of Persona 7 will be something to look forward to.

Whiskey Media will be a Fortune 500 company, Jeff Gerstmann will be President of the USA and Dave will have a beard to rival Grizzly Adams.
Forum members will still be hiding behind vague generalisations about assholes and idiots, rather than just saying whatever it is they have to say :)
In the year 2015 Giant Bomb will be sunk into darkness. After the Great Gamefaqs Migration, when the mods got so strict they wouldn't let anyone even post, the idiots despratly flocked to a new territory, GB. In order to combat the onslaught of fanboys, trolls, and idiots, the mods, lead a war against the users. With the regualr longterm GB users long dead from stupidedy tumors created by the migration the mods decided to take the shackels of their ace in the hole, MB. Fueled by pure hate only a mod can muster, MB proceded to go on a now legendary 10 day indiscriminating banning spree, know only as The Great Banhammer. After all the users were banned, the surviving mods had to put down, the now ban-hungry MB. When the dust setteles the new GB crew, now lead by Drew after the main GB crew got banned in the crossfire tryed to picked up the broken remnants of the site. Shortly After a new website came into existance, Gamecop, created by Ryan Gerstman, Jeff Caravella, Brad Davis, and Vinney Shoemaker, 4 mysterious, although very familair looking strangers. The internet became a little brighter once again.
Somwhow through it all the ER didn't miss an episode, being broadcast from a bunker somewhere below Petaluma. Can't stop the ER motherfucker.
Thats all for tonight, go to bed children.
" More assholes, more ads, and then someone will fire jeff. Its a never ending cycle. "Gamespot was bought by CNET, so Jeff was owned by the corporate bastards like a bitch.
Now Jeff has escaped the corrupted confines of GS and has created an ever-expanding democracy: Giantbomb.

But seriously, I hope the site does well.

" Giant Bomb will have become 4Chan.2 "In the glorified name of Satan i hope not.
Man, five years internet time ... That's ... That's far!
Facebook just turned five. YouTube isn't even 5 yet. Newgrounds was MASSIVE by 5 years old, and they started off way smaller than GB.
So ... I don't know. I just wish them luck, and hope I can still get a Bombcast every Tuesday in some form.

Jeff fires the CNET boss. REVENGE!
