So I'm going to start running, ordered some running gear and I'm all set. I was however wondering if you have any reccomendations for workout music?
Good workout music?
I normally listen to podcast when I workout but if I listen to music while doing it it tends to be something heavy.
First of all. It takes very little to start running. A pair of shoes (any shoes) and shorts. That's it! I hate when people spend time preparing to work out but never do. Or tools that wear expensive gear yet fuck around in the gym. If you wanna start running simply run, don't order shit in preparation.
As for music, I like system of a down or Mastodon. Their music is typical high energy and very fast.

Put on some pants and shoes and GO.
I usually download Annie Mac's radioshow for when I go to the gym.
@SadPatrol: I agree that the best thing is to just do it and get started, when it comes to running though I highly recommend getting a pair of good running shoes. Especially if your planning on getting into longer runs as you get better. I used a pair of middle range runners about a year ago and after having just increased my distance and tempo I ended up seriously injuring one of my feet. Didn't really feel much pain or anything once I had finished, but as the day went on it became a bit sore, the next day even worse and by the end of the following day my foot had swollen up really bad and I was not even able to walk! Doctors told me to not strain it too much and recommended getting some good shoes, especially when running on hard surfaces. I was off running for about a month because of it, and had to take it easy for a good while afterwards. It sucks. After having bought a really good pair of shoes (not having that happen again), I haven't had any problems, and the difference in running is also quite big! No way I'm going back to running in mid/cheap runners again.
I've been listening to a lot of mid to late 90's Punk and Ska. Nothing better to work out to then some Apocalypse Hoboken, early Alkaline Trio, and some Catch-22's. I use to listen to podcast though having a fit of laughter while on a treadmill caused me to almost mess up my ankle.
If you can listen closely to music while you're running, you're not running fast enough.
Also, thumbs up for Slayer.

Someone already put the Hearts on Fire, this shit is good too...
As is this:
Really, just buy the Rocky IV soundtrack. It is number one and best.

The whole Addicted album by The Devin Townsend Project:
Good one. I use the Ocean Machine and Deconstruction albums a lot.
Favorite non-Rocky workout album ever is definitely Earth A.D. by the Misfits. Incredibly useful for shorter (ie 20-30 minute) fairly intense workouts.
I know you asked for music but podcasts are great because their 1-2 hour running time usually co-relates well with a workout schedule. For example if your jogging for an hour you can track your progress from the start of the podcast to its end. The main problem I have with podcasts is they can be inaudible if you are working out in a loud environment like a gym or cycling near a highway. To combat this I'd suggest investing in some good noise cancelling earphones.
The entire composition was specifically made for working out and jogging (although James Murphy later admitted it was only an excuse to make a long composition).
The CBC Radio 3 Podcast put out a couple of workout podcasts. They order the songs in such a way that the tempo increases as you go and finishes with a cooling off song. Their summer road trip podcasts are pretty good too. They're about an hour an episode.

It can't be just any pair of shoes. I could run in my rugby cleats (on grass only) or my sneakers but my work boots, business shoes and bowling shoes wouldn't work. They'd fuck up your feet and knees because they don't support your foot properly for running.
I have the Chariots of Fire song on my workout track list.
I like to pretend to run in slow motion to it when no one's looking.
If you like house music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEbJ4qLiMu0 by flux pavilion is my favorite song to work out to
To anybody in this thread that posts a song that is under 120 BPM: you're doing it wrong. Here is my offering, which is either super sissy or super awesome, depending on what work of fiction it reminds you of:
Actually, that's not true, it's always super awesome, even in Footloose. If you can't admit that, then you are too much of a sissy to admit that angrily dancing Kevin Bacon is amazing.
Also, shame on you guys! We're already on the third page of this topic, and I'm only going to be the second person to suggest any video game music! This is Giant Bomb, gosh durnit! So here's a gem from VVVVVV:
@Harkat: That remix of Invaders Must Die doesn't seem like great workout music, when the first minute or so is super boring Dr. Who space synth that seems like it is going nowhere. If that song came on in the middle of a randomly shuffled playlist, it would really bring down my overall hype level. The original version only takes like 30 seconds to really kick on, and even then, that 30 seconds is a constant crescendo.
So I'm going to start running, ordered some running gear and I'm all set. I was however wondering if you have any reccomendations for workout music?I personally go with more metal-style music. But there is also the entirety of Roy Jones Jr. (all-time great pro boxer for those who don't know) album. The most popular song off of it is here, but the chorus makes me feel like "I WANT TO GET SHIT DONE."
