An estimated 4500 U.S soldiers died, while over 10,000 Iraqis died since the start of the war on March 20, 2003. It turns out Iraq did not have any ties with terrorism or weapons of mass destruction, however now American propaganda is blaming Iran for Iraq's lack of leadership. Anyway, is the world now a safer place that Saddam is gone? Even so, was he illegally compromised? Is this just a poltitical move for Obama's election campaign?
Iraq War ends today (Dec 15, 2011)
Man, that whole thing was a gigantic clusterfuck.
People shouldn't kid themselves that it's over, though.
Wow maybe you should keep up to date on current events, George Bush declared mission accomplished YEARS ago!
As long as there is oil in the Middle East it will never be over. And Saddam was a piece of shit much like the rest of the Middle Eastern rulers. My country, USA, will always stick their nose in Middle Eastern business as long as we're dependent on oil and the threat of extremist religious scumbags exists.
10,000 Iraqi casualties? DUDE! It was 150,000+ up until 2006. People should listen to Ron Paul. America needs to learn to mind its own damned business, or shit like that will continue to happen.

Shh, the Iranians will realize they have a S'more technology deficit and the whole thing will start all over again.

Iraq did have ties to terrorism.

Just not ties to certain specific terrorist acts.
Between 10.000 and 20.000 children were abused in Catholic churches in The Netherlands alone in the period of 1945-1985.

Yeah, but we don't like to treat all terrorists alike.
It's not that Saddam didn't deserve death, he did. He deserves that and then some. But the thing that bothers me is that an entire government lied about the issue resulting not only in the deaths of innocent Iraqi civilians but the deaths and emotional scarring of their own people. Innocent kids. People our age that just got out of high school and needed a place to turn. People our age that just got married and were expecting a kid, only to arrive home in a pine box. And why? So a man could do what his father couldn't. So companies could continue to get rich off of taxpayer money. Just because they fucking can. I have the utmost respect for people in the military, they're doing something that I know I wouldn't be able to do. I have zero respect for their leaders though. The soldiers on the ground are just the weapon, the people higher up are the ones pulling the trigger.
Bush and his entire fucking cabinet should be put on trial for war crimes. But they won't. Know why? Because of 9/11. A great tragedy has now become the scapegoat for further death and destruction. Call me a hippie, but violence and conflict in a time where we can destroy the entire planet will mean the end of humanity as we know it. We simply cannot afford it. We're not throwing sticks and stones anymore, we're splitting the atom and harnessing the most destructive forces in the universe. We need to remember that.
We really coulda used that trillion dollars on something worthwhile, too. Instead of killing 100,000+ innocent people, and wounding thousands more.
Of course this is a political move. I'm sure Obama pulled the troops, knowing how good it would be for his campaign.
Without our presence, it will only be a matter of time before Iraq falls into a civil war. Thanks Obama!
The more powerful of the Muslim sects will take over and install a new and awesome leader.
Or something magical happens and everybody gets along, like in a movie.
And yet the violence will continue for years to come awesome job america, now can you do something about africa now or is there no oil profits?
Iraq is still unstable as fuck, getting rid of the troops will make it worse.
Troops are leaving Afghanistan quite soon too, I give it 2 months before that country is back to being under Taliban rule.
So what was the point in it all again?
It's actually an insult to those that died and served there. Those countries are both going to be war torn very soon and people are going to feel as if they wasted their time and that sacrifices were made for no reason.
@Sooty: Fuck it if we didn't make a difference by now then who gives a fuck better then having more Americans die. I'm sure those soldiers will understand.

Humans kind of suck. The concept of murdering tens of thousands of strangers because someone told you to seems downright barbaric.
No other species has an iota of our destructive or killing potential.

@N7: Bears don't have guns, explosives or intent. @Vodun: Bacteria don't make conscious choices to kill or order killing.
I realise I sound like a pacifist, I'm not really. But intelligent apes can really do a lot of damage to one another.
Yes, but you claimed we hade the most destructive power. Also, good and evil are human constructs. They have nothing to do with the natural order.

The thing is that there are still American diplomats in Iraq that now have to put their safety in the hands of a corrupt Iraqi government. Not to mention the handful of soldiers who are staying behind to try and protect said diplomats.
@Vodun: I might have poorly phrased it then. I meant that our consciousness lets us intentionally harm and kill people, knowing full well what pain feels like and what death is for reasons other than survival.
I'm sure there's a war of sorts on dangerous bacteria too, but its waging isn't quite as harmful.
I don't believe in morality either; but I guess what I'm positing is that intentionally causing pain on another is generally an uncool thing to do. We're smart enough to see that as undesirable at least. And I assume most people would be pleased if nobody purposely killed someone else.
With the bacteria vs humans thing, I think what I'm getting at is that through technology and consciousness there are way more humans, (as a result of our development) and easier, less direct ways to kill people anywhere on the planet. If another living organism kills something it's for survival or by coincidence, there's no malice and they don't know they cause pain and death. We do, and that hasn't stopped us from going above and beyond the limits of nature for murdering one another.
I don't think humanity is wise enough to wield the power we do without committing atrocities and threatening us all.
