My Top 30 Films of All Time - yay or nay?
This! :DNay. You're not allowed to like what you like.
Um, anyway, looks like a fairly good list to me.
I can't argue with any movie on that list. They're all solid films. Most of 'em aren't exactly my favorites, but I certainly can't say you didn't pick some quality films.
thanks for your input guys. and about the top 50, I was in a rush, but this is the list that's organized.
Special Mention: Beetlejuice would be #31
I still think The Graduate isn't that great a film. But you have The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly so I can't exactly get on your case.
I'm not looking at the full list. It doesn't interest me unless you at least tell us why you think they deserve to be on a top whatever list. Good seeing the Big Lebowski so high though.
The Big Lebowski's writing was genius, the script should be up there with the greats. The music connects with the atmosphere of the film, & the chemistry between The Dude, Walter, & Donny is something you only see every 50 years or so.
Ever hear of Movie Magic? Well The Big Lebowski is a textbook example of that.
Having just recently watched 2001, I kind of don't think it fits with the rest of the list. I get why it is significant in film history and respect that, and there is a lot of clever symbolism, but as a viewing experience it commits a sin that none of the other movies mentioned come close to. It is simply boring. Maybe that's different if you didn't grow up with CG being thrown in your face, but with so much of the movie relying on extended shots of scenes that are supposed to be visually impressive, when they aren't anymore, its grueling.
I also kind of fucking hate that the HAL act hinges on the two crewmen going to lengths to hide their voices but being stupid enough to have the conversation in direct visual range. OF COURSE HE'S GOING TO READ YOUR GODDAMN LIPS! ARGHH!!
1. Go watch Akira Kurosawa films (if you love SW and Kubrick films, I can't imagine you not loving AK's stuff).
2. Stop hating Quentin Tarantino (what gives? Huh? HUH!?)
Speculation aside, I'm surprised that not one animated title made the cut.
