The computer was a Sony PCG K15, and it was running  windows xp home edition, it crashed when i was downloading requiem bloodymare. It has a Phoenix BIOS
i got an operating system not found error, i think i have to reset the BIOS, but i dont know the password, I have tried all of the generic passwords for the BIOS, none of them worked.
thanks in advanced

ALL i want to do at this point is reinstall xp, but i dont have the discs.

Don't put a password on your BIOS, unless you remember it. There might be a way to fix it, but don't ask me though.

I've heard of people using software to crack passwords and shit (talk to a IT guy), but don't ask me where to find it.

Found this with google.

@organicalistic_: Did you set the password yourself? Are you sure its the BIOS?

At what point during startup does it error? Can you hold F8 during startup to get to the advanced options? Can you start the computer in safe mode?

If you have the windows xp install cd thing, you can boot windows straight off the disk as a temporary fix.

Try and give as much info as possible.

It's dead. Throw it in the garbage.

(Your hard drive is probably faulty and windows was deleted, get a new hard drive or reinstall windows. Might happen again if you just try to reinstall windows though.)

OS not found error has nothing to do with the BIOS. Reinstall windows, the lappy should have come with a recovery or windows disc. If nothing else check out Ubuntu.

if you can not get the bios password you need to open the computer up and take out the little round battery in the motherboard for 30 seconds then it will reset the password, though os not found sounds like it has little to do with bios sounds like a reformat is needed

If you're really so lacking in confidence with your own ability to fix it, a safer solution may be: Take computer to IT-repair-type-place, have them fix it for a fee. Costs money, but will result in the computer being operational once more.

If you're lucky, it's just a corrupt Windows installation or your master boot record is malformed, although it sounds like your hard drive is fried. If your bios can detect the hard drive ( how to reset it on a laptop), well that doesn't really mean anything, it might still be dead. You should at least have some recovery discs that came with the laptop. Use them.

Probibly a stupid post because you have tried it.. can u boot it up in safe mode.. if so do system restore before you started downloading the software?
Or reinstall windows... not sure on laptops but on pc's you can reset the BIOS by moving the switch over on the motherboard for 10 seconds then moving it back.
Can you access the Bios on startup?
