While I'm no stranger to being hit by a motor vehicle under controlled conditions, today was somewhat different. While crossing a downtown Montreal street, some dude pulled the corner without slowing down and almost hit me head on.
My first instinct was to block rather than dodge.
Maybe I have been doing too much gaming after all. It wouldn't be fair to blame this on videogames when really it was just me being an idiot.

I drive a car for a living, and have been driving 35,000 to 40,000 miles a year for a long time. I've nearly been killed so many times I've lost count but I've only ever had a single accident. That accident was a deer that jumped directly into my car while I was going 50 miles an hour. It was completely unavoidable. Other than that I've been able to avoid everything: multiple head on collisions, people running read lights, people changing lanes without looking, etc.
You may ask, "does he have super powers?" Nay, young one, I just treat every single person I see on the road as if they were actively trying to kill me at any moment. Keep that in mind and you'll go far. ;)

Seriously, though, that's a scary time. I almost got hit by a car once and actually had a friend grab the hood of my coat and yank me up onto the sidewalk. It's one of those "That was a REAL moment" moments.
" My instinct would be to jump. If I managed to jump a moving car, I'd feel like jesus or something. "I thought of that, but not before thinking of using my bionic arm. Then I remembered that I don't have one.

" ouch at that. i've almost been hit by car once. i was going to gamestop and i was on a crosswalk. somebody almost didn't stop when they were driving. i almost hit people. it was dark and i noticed people were crossing the street. they noticed me and stopped crossing. "In before "FUCKING GAMESTOP"
I watched our cashier at the Pizza place at work run a red light and get totally annihilated by oncoming traffic. I was pumping gas at the time, and when the cops/ambulances/fire truck started to show up, I was thinking "Shit! They're going to be pulling the pieces of her out of that car!" Turns out she's gonna be just fine- she hit her head on the window hard enough to crack it, but showed up to work a week later with no visible cuts- just a limp. Oh- and she doesn't have a car anymore. I wonder how she feels... SEE WHAT TEXTING WHILE DRIVING CAN DO!?!

the only time i can remember where i nearly got hit by a car was when i was crossing when it was my right to and a speeding car ran the red light and came inches away from me. I can distinctly remember my heart stopping for a full second.
