The Riddler is arguably more twisted than The Joker.
Let's say you're walking down the street and The Joker see's you and decides he wants you dead. Chances are he is probably going to pull out a knife and go to work, laughing the entire time. Now yeah, that's crazy, but The Riddler is crazy in a more subtle way. If he saw you on the street and wanted you dead, he wouldn't just stab you or shoot you. He would devise some kind of a deathtrap created just for you, and give you a ridiculously hard riddle to solve. After you can't solve the riddle, and you're falling into a pool of sharks, your spirit is filled with failure as you head towards your death. At least with The Joker you could say there wasn't much you could do, but with The Riddler, you die because you weren't clever enough to solve his riddle.
The Joker is more spontaneous, I'll give you that, but The Riddler is much more sick and twisted because he intracately plans how you're going to die. And the fact that his appearance is decently composed just adds to his insanity.
P.S. In case you were wondering, I nominate The Riddler for the next Nolan/Batman film.
jim carrey i full of win for this role. if he played it 10 times more serious/chilling he'd be perfect imo
mmm can see your point, but still think joker is the more fucked up character, Joker as micheal caine says 'just wants to watch the world burn'. Riddler is a more merticulous psychopath who will plan eleborate traps and come up with insanely hard riddles, and at least give you a chance to survive, Joker doesnt, if he wants to kill you he will with no comprise, remorse or regret.
So yeah I can see your point, just dont agree, riddler is a great character though. Think next batman villian will be two face though since its setup in the dark knight, maybe one after that?

It would be a bad move to include him as a main villain in the next movie. He'd be a boring character and villain. We've already seen his two trade mark remarks that made him stand out, his face and his coin toss. Exploiting those any more would just make his character tiresome and uninteresting.

"You do realize who this thread is going to attract...
Yeah, the Riddler is a more twisted than the Joker
"
yeah i wouldn't really encourage him.....
Im going to have to disagree, because The Joker, doesnt just walk up to them laughing and stabs them. He doesnt shoot them because he wants to see all the emotions to come out and watch them beg to live but kills them anyways. As the riddler hell just play games which isnt as fun watching someone beg to live. Am i right?
i dont know both are pretty sick...... i have to agree that the joker just kills for the pure sake of killing. the riddler seems to indulge in pointless head trips to completely rape his victims mind before he illustriously puts them to an end. i'd have to say the riddlesr the sicker of the 2 imo
I doubt the next Batman villain would be the riddler. He's too similar to the joker, and nobody is going to top Heath's performance, so they'll want something completely different so it can't be compared.
"Eh. All of Batman's villains are twisted and screwed up.Hell yea.

Yikes. I think if you honestly took the best of the Joker and put them up against the best of the Riddler, you will discover that the Joker is definitely the more twisted individual. After all, in the comics, Joker shot and paralyzed Barbara Gordon, killed Robin (Jason Todd), and has consistently stood toe to toe against Batman in a fight (Dark Knight Returns). Riddler does not even come close. In fact, he's currently working as a detective to catch criminals!
Also, you should look up this term called the Riddler Factor. Basically, this term was named after the Riddler and it describes a villain that is so inept and outclassed by the superhero that the only way he survives to the end of the issue or storyline is by sheer luck. As David Campbell describes it, "Basically, the writer is on the villain's side...The Riddler Factor is like a big invisible Cloak of Lucky [sic] that protects the villain – until your 22 pages is up, that is. Then you get knocked out with one punch."
"Jonathan said:Hmm....he did the only live action portrayal. The Joker wins hands down. The RIddler is a puny son of a gun with no followers. The Joker single-handedly turned Gotham into the breeding ground for fear. The national gaurd had to come and contain it. He also single-handedly turned the mob against some of their leaders to follow him.Now tell me could the puny ass Riddler do that?"svcheats1 said:Well, he did the best live action movie portrayal so far, didnt he?"Yeah Jim Carey did a great job when he played the role of the riddler.Sarcasm, right?

Whoever plays the Riddler (assuming he's next) is going to have a tough time being more psychotic than Ledger's Joker.
Riddler is my favorite Batman villain, but you have to agree that the Joker is just more disturbing as a character. Not to mention the Joker is a much more recognizable villain to the audiance at large.
"Whoever plays the Riddler (assuming he's next) is going to have a tough time being more psychotic than Ledger's Joker. "I don't think so, just because you're dealing with a different brand of crazy. If The Riddler does end up being the next villain, the person that plays him needs to make him his own villain, not a Joker clone, IMO.

Heh. Don't we have a "Riddler" and a "Joker" on this site?
I say we should have them fight each other in a battle of psychotics. :P
"dude have you seen the joker in the dark knight he's devious"I have seen it, but what does he really do that's that much worse than anything we've seen? Disappearing pencil trick? How about Nicky Santoro's magic trick from Casino, in which he viciously stabs you 40 times in the neck with an ink pen? Like someone else mentioned, Heath Ledger as The Joker has a lot of charisma and charisma attracts people. However, there are villains out there that are just as violent, if not more violent than him.

"JJGIANT said:No...just no. You obviously know nothing of the Joker. He is criminally insane. Just go make your case to the guy named Riddler. The only guy that cares. How is the Riddler more insane or more violent than the Joker. He cut a man's mouth on moth sides so that they would bleed really bad and he would have a permanent smile on his face, he blew up a hospital, *SPOILERS* He almost blew up both of the ferries taking people out of Gotham, he killed a judge and the commissioner *END SPOILERS*"dude have you seen the joker in the dark knight he's devious"I have seen it, but what does he really do that's that much worse than anything we've seen? Tell if that dumb clow can top this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ-_sj9jUIM
no? then settled. Riddles > jokes
Why_So_Serious, Freiza from Dragonball Z blew up entire inhabited planets, so yeah, there more violent characters out there. Anyway, I'm saying The Riddler is more twisted because he plans his murders in elaborate ways. People kill other people without thinking all the time (just look at the gangs in L.A.), but it takes a real psycho to plan someone's death in a way that they struggle and become demoralized in the last remaining moments of their lives.
I'm not saying The Joker isn't sick, twisted, insane, and all that, but how does that saying go? The quiestest one in the room is the one you should fear the most? While The Joker is laughing and explaining to everyone how crazy he is, The Riddler is observing and imagining ways to mindfuck you before he kills you.
I think the next Batman film will HAVE to use Thre Riddler. I mean there simply isn't any other interesting villains left, unless they wanna use the man-bat (too CGI) Mr. Freeze (*chills* NO) Clayface (would be too much like Sandman from Spiderman 3) or someone new (which totally wouldn't work). Maybe if they had him much more calm and collect, instead of a hyper Jim Carrey.
