So while watching the latest edition of Metal Gear Scanlon, Dan said that Macgruber was one of his favorite comedy action movies. After hearing this, I decided it be a good idea to watch it.

Well, after watching it, I gotta say it is pretty terrible, at least to my comedy taste.

Anyone else happen to see this movie and enjoy it?

I was expecting a pretty bad movie with some stupid gags so I wasn't too disappointed generally but one thing I couldn't shake was the constant gay jokes...I'm OK with tasteless jokes but it happened over and over again. It made me feel (as a non straight person) uncomfortable and made the movie look lazy.

It's a goddamn national treasure and right up there with Wet Hot American Summer as one of the most under appreciated comedies of all-time.

It's really bad but I almost never enjoy R rated comedy movies as they almost always go for lazy sex jokes or the punchline is just a swear word. Pretty much the only exception to this is the Edgar Wright Cornetto Trilogy.

Yeh I was going to leave something in the comments about this movie being junk.

It has like one or two moments, i think the fact it has any following at all has a lot to do with the fact nobody makes this kind of movie anymore. I assume it's one of Dan's favourites purely on it's spy hero subject matter.

This movie furthers that old argument that American comedy sucks ass.

I've seen it a few times and it's definitely a grower. Each time I see it I notice another little quirk that makes me laugh. Not to mention it's the best use of Mr. Mister's Broken Wings since Vice City.

It was no The Brothers Solomon, which is Will Forte's Citizen Kane.

But we all know the reason why Dan likes it so much. It has a bunch of wrestlers in it.

For the people who haven't seen it, just watch this video. It's really all the movie has going for it. I mean, if it's on Netflix or something and you have 90 minutes to blow you should watch it, but don't ever spend real money or time on it.

We hated it, too. It's not an American Comedy vs. English Comedy thing... It's a bad comedy vs. good comedy thing....

I think I gave it three stars at Screened. Which is a lot, considering I was expecting it to be god-awful. It had an admirable amount of dedication to the joke that I wasn't expecting. Not a classic comedy, but decent enough.

SNL movies don't exactly have a strong history. Also doing something because Dan likes it is... questionable.

It was an amusing movie. Though I didn't really like the distraction method of celery between ass cheeks. Wasn't all that funny to me. Macgruber did have some really funny parts in it. Best action comedy would have to be Tropic Thunder.

I was always perplexed by gb people liking this movie. I was really bummed out after watching it. Most of the wokes were gross and out of place. I've never seen Mc Guyver so maybe I missed a good tribute or didn't get some references. Can someone explain it better?

I have a friend who is absolutely obsessed with it. The stars never quite aligned for me to see it, but our tastes in comedy don't really overlap all that much.

I liked it for the most part. I mean the movie's origins comes from a series of 30 second skits on SNL. Plus being an 80's baby and watching all those dumb action movies from back then makes the movie easier to digest.

I never paid two cents worth of attention to the film, but upon listening to the Kilmercast episode of it, I guess I got... mildly interested? Still rather low on the priority list, but that podcast episode is totally worth listening to.

Well, the movie is better than the skit on SNL. I think that is really all you can say, it holds up BETTER than you think it would. Not a great movie, but far from as bad as you would think.

It was pretty boring, the jokes didn't make up for it unfortunately. Disappointing since I love Will Forte. His Ted Turner impression on Conan is delightful.

I'm with Dan, Macgruber is one of my all time favorite comedies. But I definitely think we're in the minority. My buddy and I were one of six people when we saw it in theaters, and we were the only two that didn't walk out. We laughed throughout the whole thing. I have the bluray and watch it a couple of times a year. The C4 scene, the office scene where he is trying to recruit Piper, the double sex scenes, his discovery of how awesome shooting guns are, Val Kilmer screaming "WEEEAAAK," it all gets me chuckling just thinking about it. It's definitely a certain kind of comedy though.

"I hope you enjoy being date raped, mam." "That's my daughter." hahaha I could quote this movie a lot.

This movie is worth watching exactly once.

Many movies are only worth watching once. That's why my Shakespearean Iambic Pentameter version of Showgirlsis taking so long, I want to make sure it is worth at least three viewings.

Macgruber had it's laughs but isn't an all-time great. As a fan of SNL I'm still surprised they were able to milk out a Macgruber film out of what was essentially a Macguyver dim-witted version.

I haven't seen it.

The Giantbomb guys (even before Dan was working here) have said they like it. Especially Jeff and Ryan.

Everyone else in the world seems to think it's awful so I don't know if I care.

I mean Jeff likes Torque (Ryan liked it too). I appreciate their taste, but Torque is a stupid movie haha

But Dan says it's a good parody of old action movies so I don't know. Maybe I'll check it out at some point. I'm not in a hurry to, though.

Definitely cannot watch it, even when it's on in the background. I guess I don't really appreciate its sense of humor, or something. Doesn't help that I don't really like SNL either, I suppose.

I expected nothing of it having hated the SNL sketches, but I think it's definitely on the upper tier of comedies from the last decade. Not quite Superbad or Anchorman but the tier below. I've only seen it twice but both times I've been super impressed with just how agreeable I found the movie.

MacGruber makes me think of Liquid Snake from MGS, and I like to imagine he is just another of Liquid's alter egos.

You wanna go, Snake?!

He even has his
He even has his "slicked back hair and sunglasses" look.

I really liked that movie and quote it with my friend all the time.

One thing really hit me the wrong way, I felt super weird when all the wrestlers were blown up in the van. The same feeling I got when Greg Kinnear died in Mystery Men.
