Aren't these the biggest dick waving videos ever? Their sole purpose is, "I got this and you don't". If you get a new console and you want to show the UI and other points of connectivity after you've had a chance to do it yourself, then Kool and the Gang. However, if you dedicate a 5 minute video to a story on your F5 refresh on Amazon.com marathon, the UPS box, the console box proper, the boxcutter used to open the UPS box, and its scale as compared to your other consoles without turning the damned thing on, then it's all Napoleon Complex to me.
Unboxing videos on YouTube
Uh...no.
There are plenty of "hands on" videos across the net before the launch of any consumer electronics device that is anticipated to be a hit. When I got my iPhone 3G, I was thinking of 1000 things to do with it. Making a video of meticulously opening the thing and telling my life story up to that point wasn't one of them and rated just above setting the thing in the street and running over it.
i like them.
in the past week i watched unboxing videos for a sansa fuze, ipod nano, and ipod touch.
i also watch the food network or look at flickr pictures of food when i'm hungry.
i will keep doing this until i have enough money to buy electronics no one really needs.
it's enjoying shit via someone else.
porn goes into this same category as well, and i bet you, me, and everyone else on here has like 30 external harddrives dedicated to that shit.
Not at all, they can be a good watch, especially when you are waiting on stuff via mail order. it's nice to know what you will soon be getting and what it comes with, how it all works etc. I know from personal experience that when I've got something that would normally require looking at a manual, I have instead been able to connect everything up in a instant.
