Simple enough - what music have you been listening to lately?

For myself, today I've been listening to a lot of Neil Young, Bob Dylan and John Martyn.

I'm just about to fold some laundry and listen to Explosions in the Sky. Some of the best soundwaves ever to be emitted from the state of Texas.

  • More heart than brains - Great album, it's a project by Buck 65 and a producer chick (forgot her name sorry)
  • Lyrical Warfare - Pretty good album, solid UK hip hop
  • La patere rose - band from Quebec, great stuff
  • (last, but far from least) Orange Orange - The album is the fucking shit, I was waiting for it since I saw them live a while back, they're another band from Quebec

well i really missed Iron Maiden and their celestial sound so i spent the day listening to Hallowed Be Thy Name and The Nomad and other maiden songs, in addition to my usual shuffle cocktail of my favorite music (mostly rock and metal)

Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. Was that ever popular in America? It's very British, after all.

It's just been Number Girl as of late; a now defunct alternative rock band from Japan. I've loved them for a while now, but i've got my hands on some more rare tracks and live recordings. They're pure inspiration for me and my guitar playing. Can't get enough.

I should be listing to Radiohead or something. I'll be leaving for Reading fest in a few hours time.

Hmmm... Haven't there been multiple WAYLT threads that have been locked in the past? Oh well.

today it's been a medley of bands and artists: Sigur Ros, St. Vincent, A Silver Mt. Zion, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, DeVotchKa, Isis, Diecast, Parkway Drive, All That Remains, Necro, Immortal Technique, Skindred, Deftones, Explosions In the Sky, A Perfect Circle, Maylene & the Sons of Disaster, Pelican, and Protest the Hero.

I listened to about 1 to 2 songs from each.

I knew I liked you for a reason.

The list above is pretty similar to my "general listening" group. More recently/frequently I've been listening through an album by a post-rock/metal group called Maybeshewill. Interesting take on the post-rock genre, which is starting to explode again, I think.

I don't know if I necessarily love the group, but what they do is different from ninety percent of the artists under the genre heading (which, ostensibly, is basically steal time signatures and structures from Mogwai, input an arbitrary amount of silence in betwixt the two raucous halves of the track, then explode with sound at the end of the lull like it's the crescendo of a Stanley Kubrick film).

I just checked out Maybeshewill so now I guess I'll have to add them to my list. From what I've heard so far, I agree with what you've said about them. Their sound changes quite a bit between songs but I just listened to the songs on their MySpace so I don't know if that's a trend with them or if all of those songs were from different albums. They definitely have the potential to get into my head so I'll check out one of their albums tomorrow.

Fantastic album! I met Jeff Wayne back in June a couple of days before he played his Glasgow gig, which my girlfriend and I also attended (she is probably the biggest fan I've ever met haha). Managed to get my CD signed, a birthday message written by him for my gf and spent about an hour and a half with the man, as well as getting to have a pretty lengthy discussion about composing!

Sorry I was busy.

These sorts of threads haven't been allowed since the early days of Giant Bomb because they always turn into spam threads with the same users constantly replying to the thread with one word or one line posts. If you want to talk about a specific band or a specific genre of music that's fine, but this is a no-go.
