so what is the difference between the two?
whats the difference between a job and a career?
" job = work for money career = doing what you love for me anyway "qft. careers are longer, happier employment. i have a job right now fixing computer for my university but am pursuing a career in sales.
Job= short term, something you don't really like
Career= Long term, usually something you like/ are interested in, usually need some degree
" @iam3green: You have over 3000 posts and you're asking questions like this? You should grab your coat and leave. "sorry.... nah, i'm never going to leave gaintbomb unless the site goes down or i get banned for some reason. this place is nice so i don't think that would happen.
i have two more semesters of college. kind of looking forward to getting a "career". this economy jobs are bad right now.
Well they're both the same things. They have neither positive or negative connotations. The only real difference is that a career doesn't necessarily mean one job, you can have many jobs within a similar field, and then these all equate to your career. So yeah, a job is a one off thing, a career is made up of 1 or more jobs over a certain amount of time. That's about the best I can give you.
A job is something you do because you have to.
A career is something you devote a great deal of time training for because it interests you or you love it.
"A job is something you do because you have to. "
Then what's the difference between a job and a blowjob?
" @Bombs_Away: i am very young, correct. i think a career should be something that you love to do, and will never get tired of. i can't really speak though, since i have no experience. i do not much have much to contribute here. "It should be, not always the case. The trick is finding out what you wanna do as early as possible then work your ass of in school to be the best at it. Get relevant work experience when you can too, that'll help.
That's pretty wrong of you to automatically assume that nearly everyone leads a drab, boring, and depressing life. At the end of the day it's all about what field you are working in; personally I cannot imagine getting something like an accounting degree and sitting at a desk, day in and day out... but hey, that's a subjective thing. Some people take comfort and happiness into the consistency and reliability of their careers, but like you said, others may like the "what is tomorrow going to bring me" type of lifestyle. The generalization you made is pretty misleading." @MiamiRedHawks:@TheMustacheHero:@belaraphon:@AjayRaz: All you guys must be pretty young and haven't discovered the real world yet. If you think your career, the thing your gonna spend the rest of your life doing, is something you do out of love or enjoyment you're sadly mistake or just very lucky. Most people with a career are the depressed ones cause they're stuck with the same routine. It's the people who jump from job to job, experiencing different aspects of life that are spiritually happier, even though their bank balance might not be. "
You can't give out careers with your hands. I hereby order that the International Council of Awesome recognize this as 5th Level Awesome Supremeness.

"If you do something you don't like would you make it sound more demeaning by saying job, or saying what it is ( a career)?
" @TheMustacheHero: I'd say it was a pain in the ass lol I dunno really, where I come from (Manchester,UK) a career has sort of negative connotations. Makes you sound boring and old. A job is anything and everything though. Suppose it depends on where you come from and the meanings it has there. "Perhaps.
I am 32 and I personally love my career. I have had jobs where I considered cutting off a toe to get out of a week or two of work. But I have had some short term jobs that I really liked(not loved). In general I agree jobs are short term to earn money and careers are long term professions but there are of course a lot of exceptions to both.

"I'm a 25 year old American History teacher, and I can honestly say I love my job. I have only been teaching for half a year, but I really don't see myself doing anything else. I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones.
I can see what you mean about "balance" and being "spiritually happy". I had a number of jobs before I became a teacher, which helped make me a much more well rounded person.
Job = working because you need money and have to
Career = working because you love the work you do and for money
" A job involves killing someone for money. A career is what the chump you took care of had. "Haha...I second that.
A job is working from paycheck to paycheck
A carrer is working, however your job is in the same related field.
How about let's ask a credible source, instead of this hippie "happiness" stuff and "deep, somber" stuff Bombs_Away is giving you.
Career - "the particular occupation for which you are trained"
Job - "occupation: the principal activity in your life that you do to earn money"
wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
So your career decides what types of jobs you are trained for. You can have a career in nuclear engineering. Your job is monitoring heat sinks.
You can have a job, but you may turn it into a career if you wish. I have had my day job for over 8 years now, still not in fucking management.
" @BiffMcBlumpkin said:" @MiamiRedHawks said:They both have the word "Job" in them. So there is no difference. ""A job is something you do because you have to. "Then what's the difference between a job and a blowjob? "
Have eyou ever gotten a blowcareer?

I think thats what you call a girlfriend.
So in College, you train for a career, not a job. Then you take jobs that fall under that career.
" Job= short term, something you don't really like Career= Long term, usually something you like/ are interested in, usually need some degree "
I agree with this.
I view it this way:
Job: Something you do to earn money but intend to at some point move on to something bigger.
Career: A job or area of work in which you intend to spend the rest of your life and which has a chance for progression.
Lets take my life as an example. While I was in college I worked a summer job for the State Highway doing roadwork as a means to save up some money for the school year. When I got out I joined the military and went to Army OCS as my chosen career. When I got injured and that fell through I came home and got a part-time job at Gamestop with all intentions of going to law school. Since being promoted to full-time management I've begun to enjoy my video game lifestyle and have begun to consider making it my new career.
