who will be the new skywalker?

So star wars 7, 8, 9. Who will Luke Skywalker pass the torch onto (listening to lasertime's starwars episode currently). I would like to see Jason Statham. To be honest, i have no idea who would even be possible for the role... that guy who played spiderman? the guy who played Harry Potter? Will we see a non-caucasian protagonist?

i have no clue who will take up the mantle.

EDIT: I dont mean who will be the new Luke. or who will play the son. I am just talking about the role of the lead.

I think the implication is that Patrick believes a female protagonist in anything = instant interesting character.

Well, if its going with the ensemble format(and I am positive they will).

You will have two male leads, one female lead.

Most likely Luke's son, Leia/Han daughter, and some random dude.

They could mix it up and make Luke have a daughter instead of a son. But that is sort of unlikely for two reasons:

a)One of the overall arcs of the numerical Star Wars films is the relationship with father and son. Its not quite the same with father/daughter. But it could work.

b)Disney bought Star Wars to address their need to grab the 7-14 year old boy market(same with Marvel).

I guarantee though that both Luke/Leia/Han's children will be Jedi of some sort. But, I don't think there is going to be very many jedi(no jedi academy). Infact, I be willing to suspect there is probably only three. Luke, and the two kids. They may not even be fully trained.

As far as who would play the roles? Most likely the male/female leads are unknowns and the third lead may be someone of recognition.

I also suspect that Han/Leia are going to die in some glorious/sentimental fashion. Luke will get killed(or he could survive)during the course of the trilogy.

My one request: I want to see the film version of a Bothan. Even if its on the periphery.

Jason Statham at his worst is still 10x better then the AWFUL job Hayden Christensen did.

Nothing that happens post-ROTJ ever sounded good at all. They should pick a new timeframe, a la KOTOR.

Doing a better performance than Hayden Christensen is not a hard thing to achieve.

I may be wrong about Statham,but I insist that if he is given a protagonist role in the new Star Wars he will be mediocre at best.

And they most certainly will. But they won't be numerically connected. I think that this trilogy is the last one that connects(Skywalker arc).

Personally, I am hoping that if the next trilogy is of solid quality, then they go back and remake episodes 1-3. That probably aint going to happen though.

Then, the sky is limit. They can do larger ensembles. More single character driven movies etc. They can go back thousands of years, or move forward thousands of years.

As long as the next skywalker doesn't touch a lightsaber I don't care

@Funkydupe: Doubt it. The female lead will probably be a lady from television. She is too popular atm.

I really doubt you will see a Kristen Stewart or a Jennifer Lawrence.

Besides Chloe "whatever her name" is too young. The Skywalker kids are probably in their early to mid twenties.

@flindip: If they're sticking with the familiar legacies, I suppose yes. I wasn't the one suggesting her though as I haven't seen her in a movie or in anything. A new face is a great way to start a new trilogy.

I think it would be a no name actor. They don't need a big actor name to get people into seats. The title alone will be more than enough to equal a blockbuster sales wise.
