The Beatles. No contest, dude. They're not even my favorite, but who can really hold a candle to The Beatles? I think no one.

You know what's really funny about this? I totally had that song stuck in my head today. Seriously. It is not often that Ricky Martin is playing in my head.

Van Halen are my favorite. I can listen to their first 6 albums all the way through and love every second of it. I got to see them in 2007 and they're still incredible live. Now that they're all sober and in shape, they're in prime condition for a comeback.

Led Zepplin are the greatest band ever in my opinion. Is there a thread about this already?

Some of those bands above are all-time greats, no doubt, but I'm going with Pink Floyd.

Well, The Beatles are certainly amazing and probably up there in my Top 3, but my vote goes to The Who.

First off, I really can't stand a lot of The Beatles' earlier work, but, with The Who, I love early songs like "My Generation", "I Can't Explain", "Substitute" and "Magic Bus". Still, this is just a primer for the bigger and better things they accomplished.

You got there rock operas: Tommy and Quadrophenia. The former started the trend for them and is an amazing album, and the latter, in my opinion (Ark's too), perfected it. I can listen through Quadrophenia anytime without hesitation, and all the tracks are great. Townshend's songwriting as at a steady peak and the musicians were at the top of their game. Listen for Keith Moon's drum work on "The Real Me", it is really amazing.

Of course, then there is Who's Next and The Who Sell Out.  I love both of them, and Who's Next is one of my favorite albums period of all time. "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Baba O'Riley", "Bargain", "My Wife", "Behind Blue Eyes", every song is a winner.

Yeah, The Who is pretty amazing. I forgot to even mention "Who Are You" and their later work such as "Eminence Front". I probably forgot other stuff too!

Depends if you're talking about technical skill, or their ability to write catchy songs.

If it's the former, then Rush is probably going to be it. If its the latter, then the Beatles might take it.

Look, all my favorite bands have at one point admitted that they were directly inspired by Led Zepplin in some form. But I do love these threads, I enjoy seeing what everyone else thinks about music!

There's no such thing as a "Greatest band ever". Sure, there are great bands but it's all opinion.

Metallica, Van Halen, Rush, Apocalyptica, Queen, are a few examples of my favorites.

Drunken Tiger. But Wu-Tang Clan is up there as well.

If you want a rock answer, I liked System of a Down best when I was into rock. Chili Peppers aren't too bad either.

The Beatles are the greatest band of all time. Maybe not everyone's favorite, but they accomplished so much great music in such little time. Imagine what they could do if they were active for more than eight years.

Hurmp... Best band? Dont really know but I'd shortlist Joy Division, Ac/Dc,Oasis, Journey and The Cure off the top of my head. Over the next ten years I reckon Bloc Party or Digitalism could do it for me if they stay around and keep on making the quality of tunes they have been for the past 3 years. (Yes I am British)

Favroit band recently has got to be Passion Pit, they realsed there album about a week ago and its fucking unreal, with this Fleetwood Mac love child as there new single

I think John Linnons solo career was much more inspirational than what The Beatles did as a band.

i dont believe in a "Best band of all time", i think if there is such a thing, it has to go by genre. Because what most people may think is best, may not be what other people think is best.

Absolutely not.In terms of modern music and rock influence, that honour would go to Robert Johnson.

I think Robert Johnson is great, but The Beatles just reached a lot more people and got so many people to play a hand in changing popular music. If you want to go back to blues, then we have to start naming John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Lonnie Johnson, T-Bone Walker, etc. I'm not denying that blues plays a part in every kind of popular music that exists today, but we have to draw the line somewhere. I mean, you could say the person who invented the guitar is the most influential person of all time.

Plus, he said band and Robert Johnson is only one man.

You know what is crazy? When I first read this topic one of the first bands that popped in my head was Oasis..
Weird,
This question is like asking what shade of red is the best shade of red.

Ill say the Mt Rushmore of Rock Bands would be Beatles, Elvis, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, The Clash?

I dont know, I tried to pick the most influential. not necessarily my favorites
