I think Oasis are the greatest band ever! Who do YOU think are!?
Who's The Greatest Band Ever?
The Beatles. No contest, dude. They're not even my favorite, but who can really hold a candle to The Beatles? I think no one.

Im not really a beatles fan but he's got a point, you can mention the beatles almost anywhere in the world and people will know who you are talking about. Beatles FTW
Well, The Beatles are certainly amazing and probably up there in my Top 3, but my vote goes to The Who.
First off, I really can't stand a lot of The Beatles' earlier work, but, with The Who, I love early songs like "My Generation", "I Can't Explain", "Substitute" and "Magic Bus". Still, this is just a primer for the bigger and better things they accomplished.
You got there rock operas: Tommy and Quadrophenia. The former started the trend for them and is an amazing album, and the latter, in my opinion (Ark's too), perfected it. I can listen through Quadrophenia anytime without hesitation, and all the tracks are great. Townshend's songwriting as at a steady peak and the musicians were at the top of their game. Listen for Keith Moon's drum work on "The Real Me", it is really amazing.
Of course, then there is Who's Next and The Who Sell Out. I love both of them, and Who's Next is one of my favorite albums period of all time. "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Baba O'Riley", "Bargain", "My Wife", "Behind Blue Eyes", every song is a winner.
Yeah, The Who is pretty amazing. I forgot to even mention "Who Are You" and their later work such as "Eminence Front". I probably forgot other stuff too!
Depends if you're talking about technical skill, or their ability to write catchy songs.
If it's the former, then Rush is probably going to be it. If its the latter, then the Beatles might take it.
Look, all my favorite bands have at one point admitted that they were directly inspired by Led Zepplin in some form. But I do love these threads, I enjoy seeing what everyone else thinks about music!
Linkin Park. Story of the year. Three days grace. Flyleaf. All american Rejects. Green Day. Skillet. Sugarcult. Within Temptation. Incubus. YEAH. :)
Rock - Led Zeppelin
Progressive - Rush
Thrash Metal - Megadeth
Heavy Metal - Black Sabbath
Pop/Rock - The Beatles
it's gotta be THE band. i love the Beatles, rolling stones, the who etc. but the band has just been consistently good
Drunken Tiger. But Wu-Tang Clan is up there as well.
If you want a rock answer, I liked System of a Down best when I was into rock. Chili Peppers aren't too bad either.
i say AT THE DRIVE IN
Hurmp... Best band? Dont really know but I'd shortlist Joy Division, Ac/Dc,Oasis, Journey and The Cure off the top of my head. Over the next ten years I reckon Bloc Party or Digitalism could do it for me if they stay around and keep on making the quality of tunes they have been for the past 3 years. (Yes I am British)
Some obscure band you've never heard of, but I tout constantly to make myself feel more hip and underground.

i dont believe in a "Best band of all time", i think if there is such a thing, it has to go by genre. Because what most people may think is best, may not be what other people think is best.
Greatest band in terms of influence? The Beatles.

Plus, he said band and Robert Johnson is only one man.
You know what is crazy? When I first read this topic one of the first bands that popped in my head was Oasis..
Weird,
This question is like asking what shade of red is the best shade of red.
Ill say the Mt Rushmore of Rock Bands would be Beatles, Elvis, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, The Clash?
I dont know, I tried to pick the most influential. not necessarily my favorites
