Good thing you've spent time posting 500 times on a video game website, OP.
Why novels will always be better than video games
I agree that it's difficult, if not impossible, to compare games to books. As a matter of fact, the amount of times that I have actually decided between reading and playing have been surprisingly few. Sure, I read and play a lot, and I have a very finite time in which to do both. In the end, the deciding factor is always what I feel like. They scratch two very different itches.
" I'm not a book lover. I read about one book a year. I think school put me off it. I much prefer playing music. Unlike novels, and like video games, it takes skill to play music well. I find no sense of accomplishment in reading a book, but playing an amazing song well is a very special feeling. It's not even that expensive, my acoustic guitar cost me £60. OK something like a piano is way more but still, the point remains.Reading other bullet points... no light is required, there are many difficulty levels of music, once you have an instrument you can play music that is shared, for free. No graphics are needed to make music beautiful. Unfortunately, food is not supported. Portability depends on what you are playing, pull out an ocarina and you are set. story and dialogue are optional. Multiplayer is not tacked on but I never bother with it. There are no limits to the subject material. And when you aren't playing music, you can be listening to it because technology. "Creating music would be akin to writing a book; reading a book would be akin to listening to music.
What is playing music though? I haven't ever written any good music but I play it all of the time.
I love books. Silent Hill 1 and 3 gave me an amazing story that would not and could not have been as effective in novel form, because they actually scared the hell out of me. The sounds, the look of the town, and the ever present, oppressive feeling of horror at being in that place couldn't have been expressed in words the way making you experience the world in the game did.
" And next week on the giantbomb forums: Why eggs are better than aircraft carriers. Why wait till next week?
Oh, I can't wait. "
- Eggs are less expensive
- They're easier to operate
- They taste better
- They look better
- You can eat them while playing video games
- There's less social stigma
- There's way more variety
Cheaper.
The content varies based on the user's imagination.
You don't have to turn off your book during take off.
You can read a book after the Apocalypse.
If someone writes unwanted messages in your book, you can just white it out.

Why bubble gun is better than books
- Instant gratification with flavor
- literally every taste imaginable is in gum form
- Publicly accepted by all
- Gum helps you remember things
- Gum can help clean your teeth
- Much less expensive than books
- Can do literally any activity with gum in your mouth (except eat other things)
- One day gum will be in meal form. Proof from documentary.
I suppose that reasoning technically does work if you're actually going to try and compare games and books. They're very different though, and made for fairly different purposes, or at least for those purposes to be a achieved in very different ways. They both tell stories and are meant to entertain, but they're just... not similar, really. Cars and blenders are both machines, made to make our lives easier and such, but... c'mon. They can't really be compared in any way.

Reading books at work/school is actually frowned upon I noticed.
If they manage to lift their heads from their blackberries and smartphone thingies to actually have social contact for a change.
When I read books I often end up wishing there was a movie or game about it, so many great stories out there.
This is one of the worst lists I have seen...
- No need for expensive equipment
- Reflected light means less eye strain
- Unchangeable yet perfect difficulty setting
- Much less expensive
- Infinitely good graphics (cannot be quantified)
- Food can be eaten while reading
- Exceedingly portable and highly appropriate in a public setting
- Less social stigma
- Much better story and dialogue
- No tacked-on multiplayer
- Much wider variety of subject material
Am I missing anything?
Are you stupid or is this a troll?
" I agree. But this is definitely going to get locked. If you have an opinion that's against video games, it is best to keep it to yourself, because the mods are hell-bent on closing any threads that degrade video games in any way possible. "And this comes out of the guy who said that everyone who disagrees with him on an entirely subjective topic is "in denial"...
