Not new at all. They have been doing this for a long time. Or at least have been testing the process.
@ajamafalous: Yeah, I remember seeing a similar experiment a long time ago, except they were using mice or rats as the surrogates. I think it was on the TV version of Ripley's Believe It Or Not.
I can just see him reading about this in the paper and being totally amazed for about 10 minutes then say to himself "Ears, do we really need them? Probably not. Humans won't need them when we learn telepathy".
Bah, thats not a real ear. If somehow they took ear cells and caused a ear to grow then fine. Just find it kinda misleading saying she grew and ear when they just arranged cartilage in the shape of an ear.

That's exactly what an ear is. A good amount of parts in your body are interchangeable, if you've ever gotten a graft it's like that.

It's not the ear itself that affects your hearing. It's, well, you know, the hole. So it's not a matter of it "not working".

@dungbootle: @SSully: Im aware that a ear is just cartilage, its still not the point. Its a synthetically arranged graft made to look like an ear, not a real ear.

I don't like animal testing. Why don't we test it on prisoners who committed horrendous crimes instead? Like pedophiles and murderers. These animals don't deserve this. Pedos and murderers do.
yeah, i saw this the other day. i like where science is taking us. i still find it abominably gross, and would never partake in such an act. in addition, battle scars make you a more interesting person, i would keep them for that reason.
