Wow, District 9 is sitting at a 97% on RT
" its certified fresh at 94% and has a 100% rating from top critics at the time of this post. "Amazing. Usually the top critics % is lower than the overall rating.
" " That's very exciting to hear. I know next to nothing about the movie, but apparently that's the way it should be and possibly why I have seen next to no marketing around this movie. " you must be living under a rock. "And you better stay away from my rock or I'll get all Cthulhu on you! >:E~~
Personally, I hate the viral marketing behind the movie, but that doesn't deter me from wanting to see it. I've been anticipating it since I had heard that Neill was making it after getting nixed from the Halo project. Unfortunately, I won't get to see it until Saturday at the earliest, and even then, I don't like seeing a flick with a ton of MySpace-idiot-braindead-clusterfuck-teenagers fidgeting on their cell phones and ruining the movie for me.
That's awesome to hear, I was gonna see it tomorrow no matter what the critics said, but it's always nice to see positive reviews.
" @MB: See, what people are insinuating is that KaosAngel get a torrent of a cam of District 9, just in case you had no idea what these guys are talking about. "I'd rather wait 8 months for the DVD or wait for it to show theatrically here in Japan than watch a fucking cam. I've had dreams with better clarity.
" Allow me to list some of the movies that Armond White shits on that i personally likelol Armand White is INFAMOUS on Rotten Tomatoes."
- Star Trek
- Gran Torino
- Slumdog Millionaire
- Hellboy 2
- The Dark Knight
its always hilarious waiting for his bad reviews to pop up.
" The plot section of Ebert's review makes this sound so hilariously bad. However, he still seemed to like it well enough, as did others, so it's probably not as ridiculous in execution as it sounds in concept. "why would you read eberts review? he always spoils films. i hear this is a movie that is best viewed with no prior knowledge of it all.
Two clarifications:
- Peter Jackson was only a producer in this film. He scouted out this director (and his idea), but is otherwise only there to help sell the movie (along with non-executive producer duties).
- The score will go down significantly. At launch, Harry Potter 6 was at a 98. Now it's at an 83. It probably won't go down that much, but don't go celebrating just yet.
EDIT: holy shit, that critic Armond White is a goddamn idiot. He gave this and Up negative reviews, but gave positive reviews to Transformers 2 and GI Joe. He gave TRANSFUCKINGFOMERS a POSITIVE score, and UP A NEGATIVE ONE? WHAT?
I just saw it. Wow.
Best movie so far this year (unless I'm forgetting something). Also the best sci-fi movie I've ever seen, and I don't even like sci-fi.
PM if you want elaboration, I don't want to spoil anything.
The only thing upsetting was that the theatre was half empty. The vast majority of people are stupid. How do I know? There was a line up for Transformers 2 going around the Silvercity I remember at midnight, nearly twice. Nothing even close to a lineup for this movie.
i just saw a trailer of it and acting was pretty shitty and why they go to south africa? did they wanna see the world cup? lol
Back from the midnight showing.
Incredible. Best science-fiction in years. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
