George Gervin is a Hall-of-Fame basketball player from Detroit, Michigan. He played college ball at Long Beach State and Eastern Michigan University. He made it onto the Virginia Squires roster of the American Basketball Association in 1972. In June 1976 the ABA and the National Basketball Association merged. Gervin would earn three scoring titles: in 1978, 1979, and 1980. After his playing days in the NBA Gervin went on to play in Europe, in Italy and in Spain. Gervin played on two NBA teams, the San Antonio Spurs and the Chicago Bulls. The Spurs went from being an ABA team to an NBA team in the merger of 1976. George Gervin was known for his finger roll and his cool attitude on the court, which led to his nickname as "Iceman."
