Does GTA IV deserve the 98 score on Metacritic?
OH MAN, WHAT AN AWESOME THREAD! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE PRODUCTIVE RESPONSES IT'S BOUND TO GET! I'M ACTUALLY GIDDY IN ANTICIPATION!
No because it isn't very fun. I remember having so much fun with San Andreas and Ithat just never happend with GTA IV.
The only thing that makes me angrier is the fact we can't flag polls." This thread makes me extremely angry. "
EDIT: Heh... "flag polls" :)
" GTA IV was a weird game for me. I absolutely loved it when it first came out but I find that it's aged pretty badly already. Every time I've tried to go back to it I quit early on. "They definitely made some odd choices with the gameplay. The most glaring being the lack of auto-saving and mission checkpoints.. Things that become the norm in games some time ago, but in GTA IV, if you fail a mission, not only are you forced to repeat it from the very begining.. but you actually have to re-load the game, get a vehicle and drive all the way back just to start the darn thing. I've been playing the PSP games recently, and it's just an absolute nightmare. Challenge is one thing, but this is just inconvienant and for that alone, it doesn't deserve such high scores.
The game itself though I really enjoyed. I do understand a lot of people were upset that they removed some of the craziness and over the top sections. But I think it suits GTA more with the more down to Earth, realistic approach. If I want a good story, I'll play GTA. If I want mindless fun, I have Saints Row 2.
Well, really this is worded really well. It deserves the score on Metacritic, as thats what a bunch of reviews averaged out gave it.
I think you mean did it deserve the 48 or so perfect scores? obviously it did something right.
EDIT: Merry Christmas.
I believe it deserves such a high score. It encountered the same weird backlash that bioshock got after a few months. I never quite understood why people went from love to hate on both cases.

I wish Metacritic didn't exist, you can't find an avarage between subjective opinions! That's just dumb.

How much thought went into making this thread? How much thought went into the reply i'm making right now?

Hold on a sec........Lets continue this conversation over at the "Does Bioshock deserve a 96 score on Metacritic" thread that is bound to be made soon.
Ill say yes because I thought it was great. All the GTAs before it had good main characters but the other characters werent that interesting, as well as mission id get bored of after doing for an hour or so, while GTA IV on the other hand had supporting characters like Brucie and Roman I found rather interesting and the story was engaging enough where id wanna do the missions just to see what happened. it helped I found Niko rather interesting and the dialog was probably my favorite of any of the GTA games. It took everything that made past GTA great, made a Liberty City that seemed more lively then any of the past games, and cut out a lot of the rather useless stuff from past games helping make one of the greatest sandbox games ever made so yeah id say a 98 is deserving.
No. I think it is a great game and it absolutely floored me when I first played it, but it's not worthy of a 98 if a 100 is defined as "absolutely perfect."
They definitely made some odd choices with the gameplay. The most glaring being the lack of auto-saving and mission checkpoints..GTA IV did autosave after every mission.
but in GTA IV, if you fail a mission, not only are you forced to repeat it from the very begining.. but you actually have to re-load the game, get a vehicle and drive all the way back just to start the darn thing.
Umm no you dont. You get a txt instantly asking if you want to retry and if you say yes it takes you straight to the start of the mission.
Have you even played the game?
" How much thought went into making this thread? How much thought went into the reply i'm making right now? "Exactly. The OP should have a big analysis and a conclusion from which there can be a discussion. I think these types of threads can be seen as spam, just like a u-toob clip. How many of these before it stops?
Metacritic averages the scores from the online reviewer community, these are individual opinions mashed together to form a rough estimate of the games fame/reviewers enjoyment. It's been more liked then other games by more people thus the average is very high. You happen to think the game is better or worse then the average of the internet community, that's great for you go write a review of your own and get it noticed enough to be included in the group of sites metacritic grabs from and maybe you can influence scores the way you want.
I didn't like gta 4 before, I even tried to say saints row 2 was better, however since I bought it on steam for the pc, the aiming has been alot better and the graphics are really sharp. I am enjoying the game more and I can't stop playing it. I finished it a few timees already, now i'm realising the brillance of the game even if everyone thinks it's overated.
No.
I miss Amok times, Firetruck missions, more clothes, hidden mini-games, jetpacks - all the crazy stuff. Instead, there is now all this social mumbo-jumbo which I don't care about. Even the violence is not as over-the-top as I hoped. No ridiculous blood fountain after a sniper headshot? Come on …
