When I saw the logo for the game I thought it would be something with the Irish because the green V, do you think you will play as an Irish person this time? It was the first thing that came into my head. I thought them because of ST.Patricks day and that day there is a lot of green

Rockstar returns to the fictional state of San Andreas with a crew of three criminal protagonists who work together to pull off a series of high-profile heists.
Irish mob in GTA 5?
I don't see the green as any indicator of Irish anything. I'm hoping it's a west coast game, like Los Santos or San Fierro.
I just got the impression that the green lines in the V looks like the lines off a banknote.
Huh, the thought of a Grand Theft Auto: Dublin sounds really dumb.
Or even Grand Theft Auto: Dingle.
If it is in the San Andreas Area, the irish mob wouldn't really make much sense. In Liberty City or a Boston type city though, that would be pretty awesome.

Yeah, I figured green represents money. As much as I would like some Irish drunken revelry. It would be a nice change from the serious tone of the previous game.
@eroticfishcake: Everyone knows Limerick's where the action is at!
I'd buy that but only if ALL the dialogue is delivered in limerick form.
I see where you're coming from with the Irish thing, but it looks pretty much only money themed to me.
This is the logo in question for people who don't know

Sort of hoping that too, or a D.C. game. DC I doubt though, all this protesting that is happening right now is far too recent for Rockstar to call, but it might be in DC because the financial crisis of 2008, I can see a lot of plot segments on that theme. I am rooting for a mob like, politcal setting, and less one in San Andreas, because I am honestly just sick of the LA setting.
Speculation:
The green represents money, the "Five" represents San Andreas and customization, the lines represent networking (online freeroam like rdr), and the "V" refers to the dollar note (an economy system - buy safehouses & sell guns).

I've been calling that ever since the Episodes. And that logo made me hope even more. Because really, Irish mob is something Rockstar hasn't done yet, and it's bound to happen. The Boondock Saints, hell yes!! Also, more Packie.
Yeah after reading some comments I also think that could be possible, they were dropping hints in the Ballad of Gay Tony in the end credits you see Packie going to the airport and then a plane taking off , the wait is killing me damnit!.
I hope they go a different direction and have the theme be every conspiracy theory ever. Imagine doing jobs the the illuminatti, and the masons, and reptile people, and of course make the whole thing be about banks and corporations

Are there any modern day Irish mob families left? Weren't they all more active in the 70's and 80's. Anyway like eroticfishcake said, it more likely the V represents a banknote, maybe the story like will tie into political and corporate corruption.
Political and corpo corruption? Political...assassinations, even? Hey, wait! Where the fuck is Agent?!!?!?!?!? Haul ass, R*. @Vegetable_Side_Dish said:
V for Vegas.
That's one I haven't heard yet. Although, I'd definitely like to see that. So shit, I'm with you. I have no idea where this Irish mob shit is coming from. The V is green like a banknote. Not because of damn St. Patrick's day.

@Catarrhal: GTA: Dakotas would be the best evarr... lets see some SNOW.
I have no idea what the Dakotas are, but a snowy GTA sounds AMAZING!!!! I jus hope, they put back in the alt envirnoments from san andreas
Well we already had an Italian-American, African-American, Serb-Bosnian, it'd be pretty cool to play as an Irishman! Or maybe Russian, but that's just wishful thinking on my part.
Fist thing that came into my head was Irish Mob aswell. Started thinking it was going to be all The Town/Departed, super excited. As said the V is very distictively money themed too, but that doesn't rule out Irish either, especially if it's Bank Robbery based like the town, one of the most talked about mission was the "Heat" mission from GTA IV so more bank robberies might be on the horizon.
Irish Mob is still my favourite theory so far, though someone above has said V for Vegas, money styled for all the casinos. That would be cool too, though maybe a bit close to Vice City, even still Vice City might still be my favourite GTA.
When I saw that V symbol, I immediately thought of money. So I say the game takes place in Washington DC.

Exactly!! He's going to Boston!! I hope. Or Washington DC!!
@eroticfishcake: Of course it represents a banknote. And that represents a bank. And what does pop in your mind when you think of a bank? That's right, a bank heist. And what is a great association to a bank heist? THREE LEAF CLOVER!!!
It will still be set in the US, not Ireland. JUST IT WILL HAVE AN IRISH THEME I CAN'T POSSIBLY WAIT!!
Hopefully the ethnicity of the protagonist is something entirely different like GTA IV was. We get enough Irish & English protagonist and themes in most games. There are more caucasian people in America than just Irish, English, & Italian. Also Washington D.C is a kinda boring setting to have GTA V, just sayin. Washington D.C is flat and would ultimately be no different than a smaller version of Liberty City. Take some southern states and mix them with Northern states for more geographic diversity.
Also i don't think Packie getting on the plane is any real indiction. GTA IV was set in the present world and in the present the Irish & Italian mob is no more in America. Maybe if this was set in the 40's or something.
What about Scotland? I visited Rockstars homepage and this was their background picture:
Thats Royal Stewart tartan, which I believe is scottish. So maybe we have a scottish dude as the main character in GTA 5?
Ps. Sorry that I didn't take a screenshot, I accidentally refreshed the page and the background changed.
@Rappelsiini: Tartan is both Scottish and Irish
If they do make it Irish.. it better fucking not be set in America. I want Diesel Bandits, Drug running, scumbag police and all the rest.
Oh and tractors
Goddamn I hope it's the Irish mob and you play an Irish dude. Irish mob flicks are the best, and I love Irish accents.

I live in Bismarck, ND and NO.
If the protagonist is a Scot I will buy that shit in a heart beat. If he has my last name I would buy the collectors edition. What about Scotland? I visited Rockstars homepage and this was their background picture:

@MariachiMacabre:
I think it could be pretty funny tbh. Kind of like the movie Fargo meets "what the fuck".
They did a game based on the Asian gangs operating in America with Chinatown Wars, but a game focused on the Yakuza could be a very interesting route to go, though I'm not sure if it would happen with this game. My first thought was going back to San Andreas, rather than just Vegas alone. The concept art in the Episodes from Liberty City manual strengthens my theory for me. It's been a while since I looked at it, but two things stood out in it for me: the mountain, and the birds (which I'm assuming were meant to be seagulls). Both appeared in missions, and the seagulls were actually referenced during the mission where you're looking for Mike Torino. The mountain also appeared in the mission for Tenpenny where you're taken out into the countryside. They need to make a Grand Theft Auto game set in Japan focusing on the Yakuza, as that organisation is incredibly interesting.
But it won't happen. Cue Scarface/Goodfellas/Insert popular crime movie here crap.
The 'V for Vegas' angle is a cool one though, so perhaps it will be the entire city. But maybe the V is for 'Vendetta', and we're going to go collapsing banks and the government to free the people from their totalitarian state under the New World Order? Nah, just kidding.
