We're gonna open up this Guild, and you can place a bid by what you can see, but you can't go in there or touch stuff. If you outbid everyone else, you win the Guild. This episode of Guild Wars!

I like Lincoln Force, though 'Duders' would be fine by me, with the abbrev being [DUDE]

@shinboy630: I thought it had to be 4. I have never seen a abbreviation that was less than 4 in GW1 or GW2 betas.

@RobbieMac: I was in a bunch of guilds that had 2 or 3 letters in GW1, I don't know if that carries over the GW2 though. We shall see next beta!

I would also like to chime in and add my support behind Lincoln Force [LINC]. It's sort of what we've come to be known by now, what with our presence in the game, these forums, and the podcast (ok, maybe not the biggest presence in the game, but still!). Also, [LINC] > [LF] any day of the week. As an argument against anything Big Jeffery's, I feel like that reference is too new and unproven to GB for us to cling to it as a permanent name representing our guild. Also it sounds slightly pedophiliac to me.

I would be ok with giving up [LINC] for [CBSi] assuming you can have a lowercase letter in it, and that the guild name remains Lincoln Force.

It looks like Lincoln Force is the favored name. But I'm surprised I didn't see anyone suggesting Space Neon Lobsters (absurdity for the win)?

I think that yall should change the name of the guild to Guild Bores 2 ... if you know what I'm sayin.

I proposed Grounded Painterly Lobsters with the tag thing as ~SNL ("not Space Neon Lobsters") as a fantasy alternative.

I don't really care what it's ultimately named, but I think Lincoln Force is about as funny, clever, and relevant as a Chuck Norris joke.

Yeah, I can't help but think that if removed from the context of GB the whole Lincoln thing kind of falls flat.

But isn't that the point? It's something that is unique to Giantbomb, and this guild is a Giantbomb guild. So while something like Excellent Best Friends Club would be more universal, it wouldn't tie into GB at all.

@PeezMachine: I don't think there's anything wrong with using an inside joke. It's a community guild, so something that is uniquely ours could be appropriate.

Abraham Lincoln jokes aren't uniquely ours. With Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in wide theatrical release, it's just not funny anymore.

Any Giant Bomb specific meme could be fine. Off the top of my head:

My intention wasn't really to criticize the use of all inside jokes. But if it's a guild name in a game mostly filled with people removed from the joke's context I think it's better when it's at least amusing or interesting on its own (which I don't personally find Lincoln Force to be).

I find this whole "Lincoln Force isn't funny anymore because pop culture" argument to be totally fallacious. Lincoln Force doesn't derive its humor from Ryan coming up with it, it's funny because it's about motherfucking Abe Lincoln time-traveling with John Wilkes Booth's brain in a jar and beating the shit out of history with his hat and beard AND ALSO HE MIGHT BE INSANE! The fact that Ryan seeded the idea is just what ties it to Giant Bomb.

Please vote for Lincoln Force, I don't want to make another steam group :(. Change the tag all you like, but I don't think the name of the guild should be changed. It also makes the name of the podcast even more irrelevant.

Or are you afraid now that How I Met Your Mesmer [CBSi] is the obvious winner? Just open a new poll thread with Lincoln Force [LINC], How I Met Your Mesmer [CBSi], and a couple more names to finally end it.

I think you're questioning the wrong person. @No0b0rAmA just doesn't want the name changed as that would require rebranding everything that's been made so far, which is as valid a stance as any other. Besides, the whole point of this thread is so that we have a list of names that can be put into a poll thread for community vote.

Also, for the record, the tag should something that can last at least as long as the name, relevance-wise. I think [BOMB] is the ideal candidate.

Thanks Tark - yeah, that's completely right.

I'm happy to change the name of the guild, though we'll probably keep The Lincolncast name for a while if it changes to let everyone who listens from not-GB know about it and get art together for the new name. As for Noob's decision to call the steam group Lincoln Force and bitching about having to make a new one (though he should have realised this could happen when making the thing in the first place), disregard him (like anything else he says, really).

I haven't posted here yet because the entire point for this thread is suggestions, not a vote. People getting behind names here is just to let us know what will rise to the top later on so we don't have a poll with 20 items on it.

For the record, my current favourites are;

1. Good Luck Have Batman [GLHB] - something suggested last time, and where my vote went.
2. The Lincolnforce [CBSi]
3. The Lincolnforce [BOMB], The Lincolnforce [LF], The Lincolnforce [LINC] (no preference here personally)
4. How I Met Your Mesmer [CBSi] - easily the best of the new names, though I frankly just don't like playing mesmer in GW2 (unlike GW1)
5. Giant Bomb [BOMB]
6. Giant Bomb Theory [CBSi]
7. The Luchadeer Manifesto [whatever] (something suggested months ago after I made that thread)
8. Los Luchadeeros [whatever]

For the record, I really don't like the Big Jeffrey's meme.

Out of all the new ones, I'm really a fan of 'The Giant Bomb Theory [CBSi]'. It's sort of an inside joke that works well on it's own, while still letting everyone know that we're repping GB.

Alright, because it's my personal favorite, I feel this controversy needs to be sorted out if it's going to be put in the poll: is it The Luchadeer or The Luchadeers? I'm torn between a dedication to grammar and funny-sounding words.

Yeah, I like that one too. It's more relevant to us than the "how I met your mesmer" one.

I quite like The Giant Bomb Theory. I guess it's worth putting to a vote eventually.

It will be a shame to lose all the awesome Lincoln-bear related artwork, however The Giant Bomb Theory works quite well.

Honestly, I say we just keep the name Lincoln Force for simplicity's sake. It would be a major pain in the ass to re-brand everything. No matter what the name is there will always be people who dislike it or at least liked another name better. We have the podcast, artwork, and steam group, it would be stupid to change the name now. Just trying to be a voice of reason.

Even though How I Met Your Mesmer made me laugh for a good 5 minutes straight, The Lincoln Force is absolutely fine. If it isn't broke, don't fix it...and Lincoln Force is certainly not broken
