Giant Bomb Guild - Name Change Suggestion Thread
So so far we've got
Advantages for keeping Lincoln Force
- It's what we've got so far and everybody's gotten used to it
- It would way more convenient to keep it, as we wouldn't have to change anything
- It's based on a funny bombcast moment
Advantages for a different name
- The Lincoln Force joke was like two years ago
- We could have something more Guild Wars related

@Chavtheworld: @shinboy630: @SamStrife: The argument for convenience is a compelling one.
It isn't just about convenience. We'd be discarding the image we've built up so far (and by image, I mean the Lincolncast being featured on Guru).
Speaking of which - is there a way to make a poll thread where only guild members could vote? Like through steam or something?
I suspect that if we post it on these forums, like everything else on GB, only the currently-most-relevant/"funny" name would win. It went in our favour last time, as I like Lincoln Force as a name, but this time - as we seem a bit torn either way - there are advantages to doing a closed poll.
Also, @Jayzilla: I shake my head at thee sir.
Keep the name as it is now, since most people will flipflop on the suggestion they made today a month later. You're essentially asking a Kid in a Candy store to pick one type of candy for the next 2 years.
Lincoln Force has been established for quite a while, and no one has ever really complained.
I understand you're trying to be democratic, and inclusive, but sometimes that's a bad call.
Lastly Lincoln Force is enough of a GB meme, and a meme that can stand on its own without the Gb relation. It hits a good balance, sounds cool, the tag is cool, and the Lincoln Vampire hunter movie is coming out soon.

I know. I am a terrible person. Serious suggestion: Keep the name as it is now for the podcast's sake. The closed poll thing is a good idea. I would personally message all the duders in the guild and ask for their vote. Give em a few choices and what not. Either that or take suggestions for names and then whittle it down and then do a vote.

Channel your inner dictator.
I do have a Lincoln Force t-shirt courtesy of Giant Bomb ... and I could pretend that it is a guild t-shirt ...
Honestly a PM including all of the members you want to poll may be one of the easiest (or only) ways of reliably gathering information. I share the concern of a regular thread/poll being influenced by people not even playing the game or being in guild.

This post wins this thread. I could not agree more.

Also, for the record, the tag should something that can last at least as long as the name, relevance-wise. I think [BOMB] is the ideal candidate.
Lincoln Force or not, I think [BOMB] is the best guild tag.
Executive decision, guild remains Lincoln Force.
I make this on the premise that it has been in place for over a year (yes it was that long ago I made that thread) and with the gw2guru promotion now for the podcast it only seems logical to remain as Lincoln Force, the Lincolncast wouldn't make much sense without the guild being called Lincoln Force. It is also for convenience, there are many things that would need to be switched up and I feel it is best to just avoid that situation. Plus a large portion of members seem to agree with staying with Lincoln Force, so that is what it will be.@selfconfessedcynic: @Dark_Lord_Spam: Hope you two are fine with that, this is the one thing I think I needed to step up and just lay it down. Normally I will always do votes but after some thought I think the guild should remain Lincoln Force.
So now all that is up for discussion is the tag. So far it looks like these are the ones people like:
[BOMB]
[LINC]
[LF]
[CBSi] (clearly I am missing something with this one as I have no idea what this is referring to)
We will do a vote on this portion of the guild name.

Thank God. Good looks stepping in like that.
And for the record [CBSi] is CBS Interactive (hint: scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page)
My order or preference:
1. [LINC]
2. [CBSi] (not sure if this is trademarked though, don't want any issues down the road)
3. [BOMB]
@RobbieMac
Hah, well, okay.
We have to find a way to make use of How I Met Your Mesmer and the other fantastic names somewhere though - I'll wait for the new guild system to go live, perhaps there'll be a way to utilise them (maybe if they're keeping it 100 max but are putting in an alliance system, we'll have the splinters named these).
Either way, I think the funniest of the tag options is CBSi (I think shinboy beat me to this explanation handily) though the most true-to-gb one is BOMB.
