And anyone who disagrees is just... wrong.
In this thread we discuss why Heroes III kicks so much arse, and why the PS2 version in a disgrace to the series.

I play FPS games mostly. I hate games where you have to grind, or where it takes too long to get into the meat of the game.

    Is it good for me?

Edit: Looks like Rome Total War, a game I enjoyed but was very long.

By the way, if you guys like the game so much, how about writing a better article for it?

This game is really a mix; part RPG, part RTS. There's really nothing else like it. In fact, I'm gonna play it right now!

Oh, I love this game. It played a large role in taking over my free time as a child.

I think some other games have topped it. But this one always will hold a special place in my heart....

I disagree - HoM&M 3 is not the best PC game ever made, it's THE BEST GAME EVER MADE no matter which system you play

I can't even imagine how many hours i've spend playing HOMM 3, it was so great. its still is. I feel like i could pop my cds and reinstall it at any time. In fact I totally should. I can't say it's the greatest, but its right up there, in my book, with X-Com and Fallout.

Its medieval, its tactical, its turn based and back in the days, it looked awesome. Plus it had elements of an rpg game with heroes leveing up and getting loot that kept the whole thing addicting.

But what makes it "the best PC game ever" or even a great game. That sounds like it could potentially make a really fun game but what was the "spark" of it or was it nothing particuler and simply really well made?

Also is there a modern equivelant? I could go play the demo (if it has one) and maybe get a feel for the game but if there was a modern equivelant it would probably be easier to get hooked on it (and then potentially "progress" to the older game).

Heroes 3 is indeed a fantastic game in every way. Extremely addicting and almost infinite replayability.

    @Pazy:
Everyone seems to agree that the series peaked with the 3rd installment. Everything after that just doesn't compare and will probably put you off trying any of the older games. I think the graphics still hold up really well so you should definately give it a try.

I'll agree that it was very good. But its not a game I would think about when thinking about the high end of my favorite games. Its also not a game I can go back to like so many others.

Why HoMM III is so awesome and considered one of the best games ever?

Because it is a clear example of the one more turn syndrome. I've never found another game that was so addicting to the point of losing complete track of passing time.

Definitely the best value for money. I bought the game on its own for £6, then bought HOMAM Complete for £4. Best £4 EVER.

i wouldn't say it's the best game on the PC...but it certainly is somewhat of a terrific game, and one that i think alot of people could find themselves getting into very easily.

Some games i play have a certain magical quality that gets me hooked to them...HOMM 3 was one of them, and i've enjoyed the entire series in general (HOMM 2 is also a favourite of mine).
