    Homefront

By the year 2027, the North Koreans have managed to unify Korea, annex Japan, and also invade the western half of the United States. As an American rebel fighter, it is the player's duty to help push the NPA out of the United States and end the citizens' suffering.

Is it just me or is the sound terrible?

Okay, so I've been playing the single-player campaign of Homefront for about an hour now, and is it just me or is the sound absolutely terrible in this game? Heres some of the issues I've been having:

    • Certain location-based sounds don't fade in and out, they just pop right in. (I.E. the "radio" at the start of the mission where you wake up in the resistance base. Once you pass a certain spot in the room, the radio starts blaring really loud. And when you pass that spot again, it just cuts right out.)
    • I can barely if even at all hear people's voices over all the background noise (same spot as before, I can't hear the guy talking because the damn crickets are too f***ing loud!)
    • Mine and everybody else's footsteps sound like we're the juggernaut (BI***!)
Maybe its just me? But this is single handedly ruining the game for me.

In the beginning where you see two people being shot and a child running up to them crying, it's totally a babies cry. However, the kid looked 5 or so. Weapons like the M249, M16, and M4 sound nothing like their real-world counter part.

No, it isn't just you. The sound is terrible. Just another reason why I sent it back to Gamefly after 10 minutes of playing.

Also, is it me. or is the knife one of the loudest weapons in the game? In the mission where you're sneaking through the compound and have to stealth knife the guy, I jumped at how loud that stab was. I was surprised none of the bad guys heard it. If I remember I'll make a video of it, but if someone wants to do it first, go ahead.

Yeaaaaa... See, the problem is that I didn't pirate the game. I bought it on Steam. Check my account if you don't believe me:  http://www.steamcalculator.com/id/obituarypenguin

As you can tell by the video I posted up there (that's me playing), I was shocked at how rotten the sound design is throughout the entire game. Not to spoil anything, but when you end up shooting some non-North Koreans at one point, their cries of death are the exact same recordings you've been hearing the whole game (vaguely Asian AAAAAARGHS, same sound files). Every gun sounds basically identical. @CraigAA is right, the knife is stupidly loud. If you're playing in surround sound, sometimes people's voices are in the proper speaker based on where you're facing, and sometimes they're super loud in the center channel and the inconsistency is really confusing. Anytime someone's on a radio, no matter how close you are to them, you just hear them over the radio. And holy god there's a stupid amount of repetition in the dialog. "I'M UNDER HEAVY FIRE!!" Oh, seriously? Cause I'm standing right next to you. Don't even get me started on the section where you're defending the baby and your squad leader repeatedly yells for "someone to shut that baby up." Like... what? And do I need to hear that same WAV file every seven seconds?

Little or none of these issues are bugs, I don't think. They're just poor design. The whole game feels inept, the sound is just one sad, lazy part of it.

Ok that video is EXACTLY the kind of thing I was talking about with the "location-based" stuff. I'm reinstalling the game now, (because thats really going to fix anything) but when it's done I'll post a video to show the part that I'm talking about.

Yep! And there's more subtleties than "what we saw, just amplified". The idea is the same, but the execution isn't even on the same level

Yeah, it is really bad. More troubles that i have is the grenade tossing which also is pretty bad. The sight is awful, so i adjusted the look sensitivity.

Homefront is terrible on most levels. I played about half of it before literally sprinting back to a Redbox to return it, so as to avoid wasting another days fee on it.

@CraigAA:  Sounds more like that knife is hitting metal. Not an actual person.

Hmm, am I the only one who liked the game? :(

I found the sound pretty good. I didn't have issues like the video posted nor did I have any of the OP's complaints. Weapons sound pretty devastating, and stuff like that just.... turns me on.

Actually I seem to have fixed most of the problems too. I reinstalled the game (to no avail), but then I decided to do the "verify the game cache" thing and it actually fixed most of the problems. Though there are some weird things still like the super loud knife sound and my footsteps being super loud in spots.

@Shadowsquire: That is strange I didn't have no problems, then again I don't play on PC anymore.Maybe just some weird PC glitches.Cause that doesn't sound like sound design to me.
